Ms. Kang Lanying, a Falun Gong practitioner from Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, has been detained in the city detention centre for over two months. To protest the mistreatment by guards, Ms. Kang has been holding a hunger strike. During the hunger strike, the guards handcuffed her behind her back and stuck a tube down her nose into her stomach, which caused massive bleeding through her nose. Ms. Kang is very weak and very skinny. Due to force-feeding through a tube, her neck has been injured and spurts blood. Her condition is very serious.

At 6:00 a.m. on April 15th, 2009, more than ten police officers and multiple police cars from the Xinhua District Domestic Security Division and the Xihuan Police Station surrounded Ms. Kang's home. At around 7:00 a.m., they broke the door down and forced their way in to arrest Ms. Kang. They were met with resistance from her family. They called in Huo Zhigang, the deputy commissioner of the Xinhua Police Department, and more officers, then proceeded to arrest Ms. Kang and take her to the Xinhua Police Department. They also confiscated personal belongings valued at over 5000 yuan1.

At the police department, Ms. Kang was forced to sit in a metal chair2 for an entire day of interrogation. They falsely charged her with being the organizer of an audience during the trial of five practitioners in Cang County, so they wanted to intensify the persecution. To stop them from committing crimes against practitioners, Ms. Kang clarified the truth to the police for a whole day. They ignored her and still put her into the detention centre.

Ms. Kang's family demanded her release many times, but the Xinhua Police Department ignored them. When the family tried to visit her, the Xinhua Police Department and the Cangzhou City Detention Centre wouldn't let them and shifted responsibility from one to the other, making the family travel from one place to the other. As Huo Zhigang was attempting to prevent Ms. Kang's three sisters from seeing her, he insulted and shoved them. Ms. Kang's sisters are very worried about her. Her other family members are also extremely concerned.

Due to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ten years of persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Kang Lanying has lost her job and been detained.
