Mr. Huang Weizhong is a Falun Gong practitioner from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province. On February 12th, 2009, several police arrested him from his home and brutally beat him after the arrest. His eyes were covered with bruises. He almost lost eyesight in one of his eyes. He suffered injury to his internal organs, and he has been in pain since he has been detained in the Jiamusi Detention Centre. His family members have not been allowed to visit him. They recently learned that Huang Weizhong has been on a hunger strike since April 23rd, 2009, and he has been suffering brutal forced-feedings four times a day.

Force-feeding in China is known to be very painful and dangerous. Practitioner Tian Haitao from Fujin City was recently sent home because the forced-feeding caused his lungs to become severely infected. He suffered a long term high fever and kept vomiting blood; he eventually lost consciousness. His family sent him to the hospital and spent several tens of thousands yuan1 on his medical bills. According to the doctor, he remained in a dangerous condition and needed to be sent to a larger hospital for surgery.

Huang Weizhong's family members hired two lawyers from Beijing. On May 19th, 2009, when the lawyers met Huang Weizhong at the detention centre, they saw that a feeding tube was still inserted in Huang Weizhong's nose and that Huang was very weak. Then the lawyers went to the suburban procurator's house and spoke to a section head over the phone. They also met with Luo Kequi, who was in charge of Huang's case. They learned (at the procurator's house) that Huang's case had been rejected due to lack of evidence and that the case was returned to the Jiaxi Police Station. The lawyers described Huang's torture and suffering at the detention centre and his health condition. They stressed that the items collected from Huang's home were not evidence of a crime and that they were legal under the law. They asked the procurator to urge officials at Jiaxi Police Station to release Huang.

Huang's family members went to the Jiaxi Police Station and urged them to release Huang. The deputy, Liu Dianlong, said, "What are you talking about. If you didn't hire a lawyer, he would be sentenced by now. There is no release, even if he dies in detention." He told them to talk to Chen Wanyou who was in charge of the persecution of Falun Gong at the municipal police department. Pointing to a pile of files, he said, "These are all about Huang Weizhong's case." It seemed apparent that they were going to try to frame Huang Weizhong.

On May 20th, 2009, Huang's sister once again went to the Jiaxi Police Station. When she met the head of the police station, Wang Yonggang, and deputy Liu Dianlong, she told them, "My younger brother has been on a hunger strike for almost a month. He is currently in grave danger. Please release him." Liu Dianlong said, "We are not in charge of his case. You should go to the procurator's house. We just do additional investigations." Huang's sister argued, "The case is currently overseen by your station. You must be informed first hand whether he is in danger. How can you ignore it? My brother was very healthy before his arrest. If he dies, you will be the murderers." Liu Dianlong said, "Why don't you ask the detention centre to release him? That will settle it." Huang's sister was so angry that she said, "You are shameless!" Under Wang Yonggang's order, several police came up to arrest her. At that time, more people had come in to visit the police station. Huang's sister called loudly to expose them, "You are thieves. You took the money, took my brother's personal belongings, and took him away. Now he is in danger under a hunger strike, and you refuse to do anything. You are the murderers!" Wang Yonggang was afraid of making the situation more public and ordered, "Quick, let her go." Police pushed Huang's sister out of the police station. Liu Dianlong dropped another word, "Next time, you will have to go to prison to ask for his release."

When Huang's family member asked Chen Wanyou at the municipal police department to release Huang, Chen threatened, "He will be sentenced to a longer length of time if you keep doing this (hiring lawyers). If you want him to be sentenced to less, you should spend some money to get around it."

In Harbin, the police at Jiamusi Police Department claimed that local practitioners had broadcast Falun Gong messages through loudspeakers, and they frantically arrested the practitioners. More than 20 practitioners were arrested within ten days or more. Many of the practitioners suffered brutal torture. Currently, Mr. Fu Yu, Mr. Yu Yungang, Ms. Liu Xiufang, and Mr. Sun Qing are known to be still detained at Jiamusi Detention Centre. When their family members asked police to release them, the police officials Chen Wanyou, Zhang Yunlong, Gao XX, and other staff at the procurator's house were all evasive. Ms. Wang Guizhen was sent to the Jiamusi Forced Labour Camp. Thus far she has been in a coma several times, but she is not allowed release for medical treatment. Mr. Huang Weizhong was arrested during this wave of arrests.

On February 12th, 2009, Wang Yonggang (head of Jiaxi Police Station) and deputy Liu Dianlong instructed all their police officers to harass all Falun Gong practitioners registered on their "black list." That afternoon, police officer Cui Wangdong used his own key to enter the home of Mr. Huang Weizhong. Mr. Huang was not at home; so the police waited for him to return. Practitioner Ms. Song, a colleague of Huang, and another practitioner, Mr. Tian Haitao, came to visit Huang and were arrested. Later more than ten police arrived at Huang's home.

Around 9:00 p.m., they finally arrested Huang Weizhong when he came back home. Huang Weizhong suffered severe beatings when he refused to cooperate with them. Huang was taken to the suburban police branch. They handcuffed Wang's hands and feet together and hung him up with a rope. His hands and wrists were badly swollen because of the hanging. Five or six police punched and kicked him. Huang's eyes were covered with bruises and were badly swollen. He had incontinence due to the beating. One of his eyes almost lost vision. His internal organs were injured, and he was in extreme pain. He had difficulty breathing, even one month later. They had forcefully pressed his hand to sign the home search list.

Mr. Huang Weizhong's wife, Zhang Xiaogeng (a teacher at the school for the children of employees of the Jiamusi City Friendship Sugar Refinery), had been arrested three times. She had been jailed for three years and tortured in Jiamusi Forced Labour Camp with the severe "Big Back Handcuff" torture method and sent to do heavy labour. Several doctors and police drew blood from her against her will. As a result of the different forms of persecution, she died on September 13th, 2006.

Many people who know Huang Weizhong were filled with indignation towards the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) when they learned that Huang was arrested. On the same day that Huang was arrested, the police also confiscated personal property from Huang's home, including jewellery worn by his wife when she was alive, a computer, printer, mobile phone, MP3 and MP4 players, and cash totaling 4800 yuan, for a total value of 10,000 to 20,000 yuan.

Over several years, Huang Weizhong and his wife have been detained several times, and his family members have been extorted out of nearly 40,000 yuan. His wife died due to the persecution. His child has no money to go to school.

We urgently call for help from international organizations and concerned people. Please help to stop this inhumane persecution! The CCP is worse than the mafia. It has no sense of shame at all. They not only persecute Falun Gong practitioners but also threaten lawyers who stand up to appeal for practitioners. Recently they even started to arrest and beat those lawyers. Defending the rights of Falun Gong practitioners and lawyers is to defend justice and the human conscience!
