On March 28th, 2003, Domestic Security officers from the Fangzi District Police Department and the local police stormed into Ms. Xu Deqin's home in the pouring rain to arrest her in Weifang City, Shandong Province. They ransacked the place, took the family's notebook computer, printer, and other items. Their 79-year-old mother (it is not clear if she is Ms. Xu's mother or mother-in-law) begged the police to stop, but they still arrested Ms. Xu. Ms. Xu's husband, Mr. Wang Mingquan, was extremely stressed by such a violent incident, causing him to suffer heart failure. He became bedridden and was eventually hospitalized. The police released Ms. Xu after extorting 5,000 yuan1 from her family. Unfortunately, her husband never recovered, and died on May 11th, 2003.
