I am a practitioner in Taian City, Shandong Province. I recently learned, by coincidence, from a family member of a police officer who worked in Taian Prison, that Warden Liu Xinrong and a trainer, Gao Lingshan, of Ward V, put practitioner Mr. Liu Yongjin in solitary confinement because he declared null the "four pledge letters" to renounce Falun Gong he had written when he was first imprisoned. He wrote the letters when he was mentally confused after being savagely beaten by other inmates.

Mr. Liu was from the Lanshan District in Linyi City, Shandong Province. He was sentenced to seven years in prison, and sent to Ward V because he had not "transformed1." It was said that in solitary confinement, the prison arranged a dozen or so inmates to guard him. They watched him closely around the clock, and allowed him to sleep for only two to three hours a day, and eat just two small buns (one half each morning and evening and one at noontime) for his meals. Even water was rationed. With his body already badly weakened, Mr. Liu was forced to march in military steps for four hours a day in the prison courtyard. The duration of his solitary confinement has long exceeded that permitted by the prison regulations, but the police officers keep extending it because he refuses to give in.

Note

1. "Reform or Transform" Implementation of brainwashing and torture in order to force a practitioner to renounce Falun Gong. (Variations: "reform", "transform", "reformed", "reforming", "transformed", "transforming", and "transformation")
