Persecution at Shanghai Women's Forced Labour Camp Aims to "Transform" Practitioners

Shanghai Women's Forced Labour Camp forces those who have given up Falun Gong to communicate with practitioners who were recently "transformed1." The practitioners endure brainwashing as well as physical abuse in order to weaken their faith.

When practitioners first came to the labour camp, they all tried to resist the persecution. At first the guards used inmates to give practitioners trouble, not allowing them to drink water or use the toilet. They tried to brainwash them. If practitioners didn't "transform," the guards instructed inmates to physically abuse them by forcing them to stand for periods as long as 16 hours, causing practitioners to suffer from high blood pressure. Many practitioners were "transformed" under these conditions with an unwilling heart. Once they had given up, the police would enter the room and insincerely administer care.

The steadfast practitioners are not allowed to come in contact with those who have given up Falun Gong because they are afraid that those who have misunderstandings might be re-awakened. The guards know that these types of forced "transformations" are fake, thus they can only order them to "share" everyday. The true purpose is to have practitioners develop misunderstandings about Falun Gong. Doing this allows them to convince other practitioners to accept incorrect concepts. Through so-called communication, practitioners have to repeat these message every day, in an attempt to weaken the practitioners' faith.

In labour camps, those people who have given up Falun Gong and who have gained the guards' trust hold periodic private meetings. Their goal is to "transform" other practitioners and try to strengthen their concepts. The majority of time, the guards are behind all of the commands to the prisoners. Those inmates who are trying to get their sentences shortened are willing to do anything, no matter how bad it is.

Inside labour camps, guards who for many years have persecuted Falun Gong and practitioners are receiving retribution. Guard Shao Dongsheng told an inmate, "It's very strange, but every time after cursing at practitioners, I get a headache." Captain Xi Qin is the most brutal among the guards. Guard Li looks polite on the surface, but he privately told inmates to keep an eye on every single practitioner, and he claimed that even those who have been "transformed" should not be trusted.
