On March 20th, 2009, Ms. Zhai Ruie, a Falun Gong practitioner from Zhouzhuang Village, Xiong County, Hebei Province, was arrested by officers from the Mibei Township Police Station and the Xiong County State Security Team. She was taken to the Xiong County Detention Centre and is still held at that location. Her family members have made several requests to visit her but have been turned down by detention centre personnel. Ms. Zhai's 78-year-old mother-in-law asked for her daughter-in-law's release at the police station, but her request was denied. She asked the officers to differentiate between a person who conducts himself (or herself) according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and a person who commits acts of assault, robbery, looting, and vandalism. The policemen didn't dare to directly answer her, demonstrating their lack of moral sense. The elderly woman was so upset that she fell down and lost consciousness. After she came to, she was too weak to leave by herself.

Ms. Zhai's family is deeply concerned that her illnesses may recur due to her loss of freedom to practise Falun Gong.

In 1997, Ms. Zhai's husband, Mr. Liu Zhongli, started practising Falun Gong. At that time, Ms. Zhai suffered from several different illnesses. She experienced frequent dizziness, and her family didn't have enough money to take her to a hospital for treatment. After she witnessed her husband obtaining benefits from practising Falun Gong, Ms. Zhai also started practising the exercises. Soon after she started to study the Falun Gong books, practise the exercises and cultivate her heart, she quickly recovered.

In 1998, Mr. Liu's mother suffered from hypertension and serious gynaecological problems. The doctor told her that there was nothing that could be done for her. The couple persuaded her to practise Falun Gong, too. Only two months after practising the exercises, her illnesses disappeared, and she is now in good health.

Before Ms. Zhai practised Falun Gong, she often argued with her mother-in-law, and frequently complained about her to her husband. After becoming a practitioner, she aligned herself to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and sincerely cared for her mother-in-law. Subsequently, the relationship between Ms. Zhai and her mother-in-law became harmonious. Since Ms. Zhai's mother-in-law is also a practitioner, their relationship has been even closer.

Practising Falun Gong saved Ms. Zhai's mother-in-law's life, cured Ms. Zhai's illnesses, and made their whole family peaceful and healthy. When Falun Gong was attacked and slandered, Mr. Liu's entire family explained the facts about Falun Gong to people who were deceived by the lies of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and told them how healthy and harmonious they became after becoming practitioners. The couple purchased a computer and printer in order to create media for distribution.

On March 20th, officers from the Xiong County Police Station forcibly entered Mr. Liu Zhongli's home and confiscated his computer, printer, his mother's savings, and other family belongings. Mr. Liu wasn't home at that time, so he escaped the attempted arrest. Officials have been monitoring Mr. Liu's home day and night, attempting to locate him, but he left his home town in order to avoid persecution.
