Ms. He Yana, a Falun Gong practitioner from Tianjin City, was visiting her friends and distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong in the Hexi District on March 9th, 2009, when she was arrested by local authorities. This happened because she was reported by someone who was deceived and didn't know the true facts about Falun Gong. A dozen officers from Machang Police Station in the Hexi District savagely arrested her and her two friends and took them to the Machang Police Station. They later transferred them to the Hexi Public Security Sub-bureau.

At Machang Police Station and Hexi Public Security Sub-bureau, Ms. He was severely beaten, causing internal injuries, and she still has blood in her urine to this day. The police tried to force her to give up her belief in Falun Gong but she refused. Personnel from the Hexi Public Security Sub-bureau locked Ms. He up in the Rehabilitation Centre of Tianjin Ankang Hospital and then brought false charges against her, saying that she was taking addictive drugs.

When Ms. He's family asked for evidence, the police couldn't provide any. Instead, they tried to extort the health examination fee from her family. He Yana's two friends, Guan Jing and Zhou Jie, were also persecuted for no reason. The police locked them up in the detention centre of the Hexi Public Security Sub-bureau under the pretext that they were harbouring drug addicts, but no drugs were found at her friends' home.

In 2001, He Yana was detained at the Banqiao Forced Labour Camp in Dagang because she had committed a crime by taking a wrong step in life. When the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Party was at its peak, she was with practitioners from morning to night in the labour camp. She experienced the goodness of Falun Gong and started practising in 2008. The change in her astounded many criminal inmates who were coerced by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) into participating in the persecution of practitioners.
