Elderly Falun Gong Practitioners Persecuted in Dagang District, Tianjin City

1. Ms. Dou Guirong Died as a Result of Persecution; Her Elderly Mother Is Being Persecuted

Ms. Dou Guirong was a practitioner in Dagang District, Tianjin City, employed at a youth activity centre. Ms. Dou began to practise Falun Gong in 2004. Before the practice, she suffered from colon cancer. The illness disappeared soon after practising Falun Gong. She truly lived by the principles Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and everyone said that she was a good person. She was awarded the Model Worker award at her workplace.

In 2008, before the Olympic Games began, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents intensified the persecution of practitioners, claiming that it was in the best interest of the Olympics. The 610 Office¹ in Dagang District arrested more than a dozen practitioners without a warrant, including Ms. Dou. They were released after several days. The detention shocked Ms. Dou mentally and physically. She developed health problems, which worsened quickly. She passed away on March 2nd, 2009.

The death of Ms. Dou presents a great hardship to her family, especially to her elderly mother. Her mother recognized the true nature of the CCP through her daughter's death and she exposed the persecution to people. Members of the Fuyuanli Neighbourhood Committee in Dagang District followed her and she was arrested on March 20th, 2009. She was detained in the Banyanglu Police Station for more than 4 hours. Police ransacked her home and took Falun Gong books.

2. Mr. Feng Tirong Arrested and Family Members Harassed

Mr. Feng Tirong is an elderly practitioner from Tianjin City, Dagang District. Around 8 p.m. on April 1st, 2009, police arrested Mr. Feng near a vehicle shed in Xinganli. Mr. Feng was taken to the Gangbei Police Station and they photographed him. Three policemen took Mr. Feng to his home that same night. They ransacked his home until 2 a.m. and confiscated Falun Gong books and a bag of Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. The next day, the police came to Mr. Feng's home again and demanded that Mr. and Mrs. Feng accompany them to the police station. Mrs. Feng refused. Police kept questioning Mrs. Feng about the origin of the leaflets. Mrs. Feng did not provide any information. The police harassed them for three days.
