Torture Methods used in Changchun, the Hometown of Falun Gong's Teacher, Li Hongzhi

On March 6, 2002, the police spirited away several Falun Dafa practitioners from outside Changchun's Nanguan Court to a brainwashing class in Tiebei Judicial Bureau's boarding facility. Practitioners held a hunger strike to protest. Although they suffered brutal force-feeding and torture, practitioners persisted in their beliefs and finally defeated the evil.

At 8 a.m. on March 6, 2002, Changchun Nanguan Court illegally put thirteen Falun Dafa practitioners on trial. Many practitioners came to the scene to clarify the truth to the public. On the same day, the police and the hooligans hired by them took to the streets around Changchun Nanguan Court to arrest people. They dragged practitioners into police cars without explanation. A practitioner's hand was cut and bleeding from being slammed in a car door. Another practitioner was pinned to the car seat by several thugs piled on top of her. The police arrested people regardless of whether they practiced Falun Gong or not and sent them all to a brainwashing class in Tiebei Judicial Bureau's boarding facility. The police threw everyone into an iron cage in the courtyard. They ordered everyone to squat down facing the wall and demanded their names and addresses. Some practitioners refused to cooperate and would not squat down. The police took them inside the building and cuffed their hands to a bed frame and would not release them or let them use the toilet without first telling their names and addresses. One practitioner asked to use the toilet. The police refused her. When she made the request again, a police officer punched her in the chest fiercely several times, struck her right eye with a clipboard, and left. She did not care what the police said and went to the toilet herself. If the police violate the law and deprive people of their basic rights, how could we cooperate with them?

Seventeen practitioners refused to tell their names and addresses. The police confiscated their money and keys and locked them in a cold damp room with several police standing guard outside the door. A practitioner in her fifties could not walk due to the muscle spasm caused by the police kicking her legs and hands. Two practitioners realized, "We are not guilty and should not stay here. We should walk out of here. Then they jumped out of a window while going to the toilet. The police discovered them and chased them. They grabbed the practitioners by their hair and slammed their heads together. The police also viciously kicked their legs and backs until they could not stand and dragged them back to the room. One practitioner's head was bleeding and received two stitches. Another practitioner could not move from the beating and frequently urinated blood.

Two of the practitioners were sisters. The younger one was six months pregnant. She had abdominal pains that night and was not even provided any bedding. The older sister was nursing her baby. She told the police her address and that she had a two month-old baby at home. The police refused to release her until her father-in-law came with the baby asking for her. They released the pregnant younger sister two days later. The 17 practitioners were locked together in one room that had only three beds. Many had to sit on the floor and could not sleep. In order to protest the illegal detention, they started a hunger strike, refusing both food and water. The police sent in some bedding several days later. A practitioner saw a framed regulation on the nightstands that read "Law Enforcement Study Class" and realized, "We did not violate any law. Why should we study this? We should not follow their arrangement." She took the paper from the frame and threw it away.

Every day, practitioners got together to recite the Fa [the teachings of Falun Dafa] and to do Fa Zheng Nian [a type of meditation]. They clarified the truth to people around them with kind hearts.

In the beginning, practitioners often encountered disruptions while doing Fa Zheng Nian. Whenever the police came into the room, they had to stop. Later, they realized that they should not fear the evil and did Fa Zheng Nian non-stop. A young police officer with glasses from the first division of the police department came to kick a female practitioner's legs. However the practitioner was steady as a rock and did not move. An elderly practitioner stopped the policeman and told him that it was wrong to hit people. He angrily left and did not come to disturb them again. The next day, he seemed to be less determined.

We did not cooperate with the police when they wanted to take our pictures and fingerprints. They grabbed each of us by our heads to forcefully take our pictures. When they failed to get our names, they gave us numbers. Two practitioners refused to wear the number tags. The police from the first division of the police department took them into a room and beat their legs. Their legs turned black and purple and they could not walk down stairs. On the second day the police also took a female practitioner in her forties over to the first division. They covered her head with a plastic bag and beat her. They tortured her with the "Tiger stool" for two nights and three days and did not allow her to use the toilet or sleep. The police watched her in turn and tortured her. Unable to get anything out of her, they sent her back to the brainwashing class.

On the fifth day of the practitioners' hunger strike, the police started to insert feeding tubes into their stomachs and feed them with highly concentrated salt water blended with a little pureed corn soup. Several police held practitioners' heads, hands, legs, and arms, stretching them out. They forced their mouths open with special tools and rattled the tools inside their mouths and throats, yelling, "Just fill them through here. Let those who do not eat watch this and see if they change their minds." Every practitioner who was forcefully fed had blood in her mouth and endured inhuman torture. Doctors and nurses from Kanxuan Hospital were directing the police how to insert the tubes and pry their teeth apart. A practitioner in her fifties had her two front teeth cut out. Hearing the miserable crying, they claimed that they were saving people. The police sent one of the practitioners to Changchun Hospital by ambulance several days later because of the beatings. Before the police arrived, the doctors in the hospital said, "Pay our fee first. Otherwise, we won't even treat emergency cases." That night, six practitioners were thrown out in the hallway after being force-fed. The police did not allow them to have any bedding and said, "From now on, we will feed you every meal. We'll see who continues not to eat."

Without hate or anger, practitioners persistently clarified the truth to the doctors and nurses who came there every day and told them that they should not do this. Those who were force-fed all had broken teeth and swollen throats. During the last several days, in order to get the practitioners to eat, the police gathered all practitioners who were eating as well as those on the hunger strike into one room.

A 68 year-old college professor was arrested from her home on February 9 and had been detained for more than a month. She kindly clarified the truth to everyone and told them not to persecute [Falun] Dafa and practitioners, to benefit their own lives. One person told her, "If you do not give up practicing Falun Gong, you will be sentenced to two years in labour camp." She had been very healthy and had not taken any medication since 1992 when she took Falun Gong classes from Teacher Li. She had saved the country much in medical expenses and educated many students for the country, but because she believes in "Truth, Compassion, Forbearance," they arrested her. What sin has she committed?

After the force-feeding on the fifth day, the number on hunger strike increased from six to eight and then ten practitioners. The police often threatened to force-feed them again or came in to kick the bed. Since the practitioners held to their unshakable beliefs in Dafa and continued to clarify the truth, the police never fed them. On the eleventh day, a practitioner unable to walk because of the torture was carried to the hospital. The hospital did not want to keep her and her family finally took her back home. Another practitioner was sent to Heizuizi Female Labour Camp despite the fact that her life was in danger. She firmly held righteous thoughts and did not cooperate to have fluids or to be fed. Five days later, her family took her back home. After a total of sixteen days in the evil brainwashing class and the labour camp, she walked out right under their noses.

I personally heard and experienced what I have described here. I wrote it down in order to encourage my fellow practitioners.
