Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zheng Yongyi is 34 years old, and lives in Zhuanghe City, Liaoning Province. He was persecuted by the Dalian Drug Abuse Centre in 1999 and lost his mental clarity. In the past nine years, his family has spent a lot of money treating Mr. Zheng, but he hasn't recovered, and is still dependent on his parents for daily care.

Mr. Zheng Yongyi lives at Xiaoying Village, Guangmingshan Township of Zhuanghe City. Mr. Zheng Yongyi and his father started to practise Falun Gong in 1997. On July 20th, 1999, Jiang Zemin [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] started a national campaign to persecute Falun Gong. Since they were beneficiaries of Falun Gong, Zheng Yongyi and his father bought two tickets to Beijing, and prepared to appeal to the central government. They were detained in the middle of their trip by police, and were taken to a police station.

At the police station, the police asked Mr. Zheng Yongyi if he knew where a paper that they found on his father was from. Mr. Zheng Yongyi answered that he didn't know. They then beat Mr. Zheng with fists and kicked him for about half an hour. They didn't stop until they were all tired. Mr. Zheng Yongyi's mind was not very clear by then.

The second day, Mr. Zheng Yongyi was sent to a detention centre, where the police shocked Mr. Zheng with an electric baton, and let inmates beat Mr. Zheng since he refused to eat and recite the rules of the prison. The police also wrote words to slander Falun Gong and tried to push the paper into Mr. Zheng's mouth. Mr. Zheng rejected this, and was beaten up badly, until his whole body was full of bruises, black and blue all over.

Fifteen days later, Mr. Zheng Yongyi and his father were sent to the Dalian Drug Abuse Centre. They were both stripped naked and beaten badly there.

Mr. Zheng Yongyi lost his sanity due to severe torture after less than one month at the Dalian Drug Abuse Centre. He was absent-minded every day, and was not willing to talk. Thirty-five days later, when Mr. Zheng and his father were released, his father was deaf in both ears.

After getting home, Mr. Zheng Yongyi's family took him to see a doctor, and he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. During the past nine years, his family has spent a lot of money to have him treated, but he hasn't regained his health, and is still dependent on his parents' care, which is a burden on this poor family.
