Guards at Shenyang City No. 2 Prison in Liaoning Province routinely torture Falun Gong practitioners very brutally. Practitioner Mr. Han Liguo from Lingyuan City was tortured to death, followed by the death of practitioner Mr. Sun Qian from Fushun City. Guards have also tortured practitioner Sun Yongsheng from Fushun City.

Mr. Han Liguo was in his late 40s and worked at the Lingyuan Iron and Steel Company. He was detained in the No. 20 Ward (the team assigned to persecute Falun Gong practitioners) of the prison. On August 20th, 2004, he died after being severely tortured. The authorities have confined his wife in Liaoning Province Women's Prison.

One Saturday morning in early July 2004 after 9:00 a.m., somebody in the No. 20 Ward called out for Han Liguo and said that the prison head, Li Jianguo, wanted to see him. Nobody has seen Mr. Han since. After a long time, other prisoners heard that he had already passed away. But just how did he die? No one knows what really happened, except for Li Jianguo and his evil gang of sadistic torturers. (It was said that two practitioners died on that same day, but no one knows the name of the other practitioner.) Before he died, Han Liguo's daughter tried to see her father, but prison head Li Jianguo refused to allow her to visit.

Mr. Sun Qian, age 33, was confined in the No. 20 Ward. Because Mr. Sun was very firm in his belief, he was sent to the "strictly-monitored" team at the end of 2003. In 2004, he once again refused to do slave labour. The authorities locked him once again in a confinement cell. A doctor in the prison examined him and said there was a dark shadow on his lung. But Mr. Sun said there was nothing wrong with his health and that he was in good shape. Later, they took him to a hospital, where he passed away. No one knows how he died. Prison director Li Jianguo refused to let his family see him until March 2005, when he was on the brink of death, they finally allowed his mother to see him. He died that same night.

Mr. Sun Yongsheng from Fushun City is in his 20s. At first he was detained in Fushun Detention Centre, where he was tortured with the leg-split. As a result, his legs swelled tremendously. At that detention centre, many practitioners were subjected to this particular torture because of the fact that the physical damage from this method of torture cannot be easily detected from outward appearances. After Mr. Sun was tortured this way, although he appeared uninjured on the surface, afterwards, he couldn't walk. His legs didn't recover until a few months later.

Later the authorities sent Sun Yongsheng to the Shenyang City No. 2 Prison. Several practitioners detained there developed scabies and so did Mr. Sun. During the spring of 2005, the guards supplied the practitioners with rotten food. Sometimes the vegetables in broth were dark-coloured. You had to wash them before you could eat them. Practitioners were forced to eat such rotten food for several months. Many people vomited or had diarrhoea. The prison has a store, where prices are outrageously high, but practitioners are only allowed to buy merchandise once a month.

Mr. Sun Yongsheng did not acknowledge the persecution and refused to do slave labour. Therefore, the guards put him in the "strictly-monitored" team. Practitioners who are firm in their belief have all been put in the "strictly-monitored" team. The guards only gave them two meals a day. Two scoops of corn broth and two slices of preserved vegetables are all you get for a meal there. Mr. Sun went on a hunger strike and almost died.

In July 2006, he was transferred to the No. 6 Ward. Di Qiang, the team leader in his 40s, persecute practitioners most severely. Mr. Sun requested some time off in the middle of September because he felt unwell, but Zhi Qiang ignored his plea. He ordered four criminal prisoners to carry him out to work. Two of them held Mr. Sun's arms, the other two carried him by his legs. They carried him to the workshop from the prison cell. As he was dragged along, he called out to the people who had just finished that day's work, "Falun Gong is Good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!"

In October 2006, the authorities transferred Sun Yongsheng to the No. 8 Division. Division head Zhang Xiaofeng, in his 40s, instigated production team head Jing Tao to force Mr. Sun to work. He ordered four prisoners to carry him out again to the workshop. As they forcibly dragged him out, Mr. Sun's head was struck twice, and blood began streaming out like running water.

When Mr. Suns parents went to Fushun City to visit him, sometimes they were let in to see him after they had waited from morning till night. Other times they had to purchase a high-priced meal [at the prison], otherwise, the guards wouldn't let them see him. Very often after they had just paid for their meal, the guards would immediately start shouting at them, "It's time, you need to go!" They weren't allowed the chance to say one word to their son before being rushed out.

There are 27 to 28 wards in Shenyang Prison. Each ward is assigned one division head to be in charge of production. To guarantee a better profit for themselves, the division heads force detainees to do slave labour all day and all night, without allowing them a day's rest. Regular criminal inmates also cannot take the heavy workload, so suicide is a regular occurrence.
