Practitioners Mr. Liu Wenyuan and Ms. Zhou Lan from Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province Sentenced

Practitioners Mr. Liu Wenyuan and Ms. Zhou Lan, from Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, have recently been sentenced by a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) court.

Mr. Liu Wenyuan is an employee for the transportation department of the Taiyuan City Steel Company. He was arrested on October 14th, 2008, and his home was ransacked by officers Zheng Bingfeng and Xu Yonghong, from the Shanglan Village Police Station in Jiancaoping District. He was detained at the Chai Village Detention Centre in Jiancaoping District. His family was not allowed to visit him, and even though they asked for Mr. Liu's release numerous times, the guards and police officers intentionally shifted the responsibility back and forth.

On January 12th, 2009, the Jiancaoping District CCP court held a trial for Mr. Liu Wenyuan. His family was not notified, and Mr. Liu had no legal representation.

Mr. Liu is still being held at the Chai Village Detention Centre. Other practitioners, including Ms. Zhao Hongbo, are also imprisoned at the same detention centre. It was reported that each cell at the detention centre holds at least three practitioners and some have been there one or two years.

Mr. Liu's wife does not have a job. She has to take care their son who still goes to school, as well as her elderly parents. Mr. Liu provides the family's only source of income. The family is now in a very difficult situation.

Practitioner Ms. Zhou Lan is around forty years old. On July 25th, 2008, she was arrested by officers from the vice squad of the Taiyuan City Police Department while she was distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. The officers included Wang Lin'gui and Shang Junwu. On August 6th, 2008, the Taiyuan City CCP Procuratorate approved the arrest of Ms. Zhou. The officers involved included Wang Linsuo and Wan Yong.

On October 9th, 2008, the Taiyuan City CCP court held a trial for Ms. Zhou Lan at the Yingze District Police Department. Ms. Zhou told the judge that she became healthy after practising Falun Gong, so she wanted to tell others that Falun Gong, is great. Ms. Zhou is still being detained at the Taiyuan City Detention Centre.
