I was imprisoned at No. 2 Women's Forced Labour Camp in Shandong Province for a long period. I witnessed the cruel persecution of Falun Gong practitioners there. The following accounts are only the tip of the iceberg.

The forced labour camp separated the newly imprisoned practitioners and sent them to brainwashing classes. They were not allowed to have any contact with other practitioners or the outside world. Every day from dawn to dusk, they were forced to watch and listen to audio and video recordings that attacked and slandered Falun Gong. Afterwards, they were forced to write statements of their impressions and experiences.

The guards used different methods to persecute practitioners. Some were physically punished by being forced to stand facing a wall from day to night. They were not allowed to move or sleep in order to overtire their minds and bodies. Some guards took advantage of practitioners' kindness to lie to them. Because the practitioners were frightened, they mistook the guards' words and persecutory acts as beneficial to them. Some guards used family, social relations, the threat of divorce or getting fired from a job, and other means to pressure practitioners to make the wrong decision. The guards also used people who had been "transformed1" to deceive practitioners with deviated logic.

Methods the guards used to persecute practitioners who refused to "transform" included long-term physical punishment and strict surveillance, extending the detainment period at the forced labour camp, giving a verdict, or issuing a prison sentence. Strict surveillance included threats, berating, handcuffing, locking up in a cell, handcuffing to the ceiling and not allowing a practitioner to move. They were allowed very little sleep and were guarded by other prisoners. Some were forced to sit on a small stool from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. or 12, or not allowed to go to the toilet. Practitioner Ms. Liu Xiushan, over 50 years old, was persecuted this way. Her legs and feet became swollen and she was given only one bun for each meal.

The following are accounts of the persecution experienced by some practitioners:

Ms. Sun Suling, 44 years old, was sentenced to forced labour for one and a half years in June 2007. She refused to write a guarantee statement and shouted "Falun Gong is good". She was put into a small cell (1) by guards and was not allowed to use the toilet.

Ms. Chi Xiaomei, over 50 years old, is a politics teacher in Weifang City. She was taken to the forced labour camp in June 2008. She was put in a small cell, forced to stand, and was not allowed to use the toilet or sleep. She was guarded by other prisoners and over time lost a lot of weight.

Ms. An Dehua, 45 years old, is a doctor at Boxing Hospital in Binzhou City. She was taken to the labor camp in July 2008. In September 2008, she was put into a small cell, handcuffed, and cuffed to the window of the guards' washroom. She was denied sleep and when her mental state became unstable, she was taken back to Binzhou City.

Ms. Zhao Shuhuan, over 50 years old, Ms. Dong Wenxiu, over 50 years old, and Ms. Ding Xuehua, around 60 years old, didn't raise their hands during the "October 1st" flag-raising ceremony in 2008. They refused to cooperate and were taken to separate cells. They were locked up for 7 to 10 days, handcuffed, hung from the ceiling or cuffed to a spot and not allowed to move. They were not able to endure the daily persecution and wrote "guarantee statements" to renounce Falun Gong. The guards still put them in small cells and the labour camp is preparing to extend their terms.

Ms. Yan Xiling, 51 years old, was sentenced to the labor camp for three years in July 2006. She wrote a guarantee statement in August 2006 but renounced it that October. The guards locked her in a small cell, forced her to stand and denied her sleep. As a result, she suffered headaches and pain in the eyes.
