Wu Xiuxin, about 50 years old, is a doctor at the Laixi City People's Hospital in Shandong Province. She is kind hearted and honest and maintains a high level of professionalism. During the past years, she has always followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. She is considerate of patients and is well-respected as a doctor.

Dr. Wu was one of the first Falun Gong practitioners in Laixi City. She is also a former assistant of the Laixi City Falun Gong Assistance Centre. Since July 20th, 1999, she has been persecuted repeatedly.

In October of 2000, she was arrested by police from the Laixi Political Security Section. Later on, she was sent to the Jiangshuiquan Women's Forced Labour Camp to serve a three-year sentence. In the labour camp, she witnessed many Falun Gong practitioners being tortured. For example, Ms. Zhang Yanyuan, a practitioner in her 30s, from Jinan City, Shandong Province, was handcuffed and hung up with her tiptoes barely touching the ground for many days because she refused to be "transformed1" and insisted on practising Falun Gong. As a result, the handcuffs cut into her wrists and blood dripped down her arms. Ms. Zhang was watched around the clock and was not allowed to sleep. As soon as she nodded off, someone woke her up. This was done to cause her extreme pain and exhaustion so that she would give up her righteous belief. Later on, Ms. Zhang was brutally force-fed many times because she went on hunger strikes to protest the persecution. After she was tortured to the verge of death and the doctor said she was dying, the guards threw her out of the camp in order to avoid responsibility.

In the labour camp, there were many cases of practitioners being tied on beds, beaten with electric batons, and forced to do intensive labour.

After witnessing so many terrible and inhuman sights, Dr. Wu became fearful all the time. Under pressure, she wrote the so-called repentance statement2, giving up her belief, and stopped practising.

After serving her three-year term and with much effort, Dr. Wu Xiuxin went back to work at the hospital.

She finally returned to the path of cultivating in Dafa after many days and nights spent thinking. In order to clarify the truth about Falun Gong and stop the persecution, she travelled to many places.

On July 31st, 2008, 17 Laixi Falun Gong practitioners were arrested by officers of the Qidao Road Police Station, the largest incident since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong in1999. At the time, Dr. Wu was at work. At 7 p.m. that evening, officers Li Weikui from the Laixi Police Department and other officers from the Qingdao Road Police Station broke into her home, searched it, and took her away. The police also took her computer, printer, and other personal property.

The procuratorate returned her case to the police department because of insufficient evidence. Afterwards, Director Guan Enfu from the Laixi Police Department, Wang Jianzhi from the 610 Office3, and Shen Tao from the department responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong made many efforts to collect "evidence" and resubmitted Dr. Wu's case to the procuratorate. In order to get her into prison, they told the procuratorate to accept the case.

Currently, because of insufficient evidence, the case has been returned to the police department for a second time. The criminal police team is still trying to collect "evidence."

Shen Tao wanted to seize the apartment that Dr. Wu moved into recently. Without any evidence, he claimed they suspected the apartment was purchased by Falun Gong through fund-raising. He intended to frame Dr. Wu using this as "evidence" and have her sent her to prison. Dr. Wu's husband has been retired for many years. When he saw that the new apartment that he and his wife had bought with their life savings was about to be taken away, he became very indignant.

The day after Dr. Wu's arrest, she was taken to a detention centre. At that time, her blood pressure had risen to 160. According to regulations, the detention centre should not have accepted her in such a condition. However, Laixi police officials forced the detention centre to accept her. Dr. Wu firmly resisted cooperating with the police, who had to drag her inside from the entrance of the detention centre.

Dr. Wu Xiuxin is now in the Dashan Detention Centre in Qingdao City. Her family is not allowed to visit her. According to an insider, she needs help to use the toilet as a result of persecution.
