On the 13th and 20th of December 2008, Falun Gong practitioners from Scotland used their free time to talk to people in the downtown area of Edinburgh about the nine years of persecution against practitioners in China by the Chinese Communist Party. At the same time, practitioners also told people about the satellite company Eutelsat shutting down the signal broadcast of NTDTV into China with the excuse that there were technical difficulties, which resulted in Chinese people losing their only television channel that reveals the truth about the CCP's human rights atrocities. They collected people’s signatures on a petition requesting that Eutelsat restore NTDTV's broadcast signal.

People on the street sign their names in support of Falun Gong Pedestrians stop at the exhibition table of Falun Gong practitioners and come to understand the true situation

The practitioners had prepared photos exposing the CCP’s brutal persecution of Falun Gong and flyers summarising investigative reports into the CCP’s harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners' internal organs. They also had material about "Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party”, a series of essays published in late 2004 that reveal the true nature of the Communist Party. The Nine Commentaries have led millions of people to renounce their membership in the Chinese Communist Party.

In the runup to Christmas people were very busy but many stopped to look at the photographs and find out more about the CCP's human rights crimes. A young woman took the initiative to come and sign her name at the petition table after attentively viewing the photographs. When she wanted to leave, a practitioner handed her a “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party” Video Disc. This young woman said: “ I know that for China to do this sort of thing is very wrong, it really is too cruel. However, China also has many good attributes, such as the long culture and history…” The practitioner patiently explained, “The CCP is not China, and cannot represent China.” The woman became cheerful and said, “Yes, what you said is correct. A political party cannot represent a country, or a nationality.” She took the Video disc and said that she would have a good look at what is happening during this period of history in China.

A Chinese girl and her English friend passed by the petition table. The girl told the practitioner that she and her friends in China all know about the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners and that they do not like the evil CCP. The girl’s English friend could speak Chinese with a very fluent accent. She asked for a “Nine commentaries” Video disc and said that she would like to watch it carefully.

After the two students found out about how Falun Gong practitioners had been the victims of the CCP’s persecution, they took some video discs and flyers to give to their teacher and fellow students. The information informed people of the necessity of broadcasting NTDTV to the Chinese people, and that this was the only TV station available in China that was not controlled by the CCP. NTDTV is a medium for the Chinese people to understand how the CCP blatantly violates human rights and which enables people to break through the CCP’s lies and deceit to see the true situation in China.
