Two years ago, Mr. Jiang Minghui, a Falun Gong practitioner from Lanzhou city, Gansu province, was sentenced to seven years in Lanzhou prison. In 2008, Mr. Jiang Minghui, Jiang Chunbing and Li Fubing were sent to solitary confinement for two to three months. They were forced to wear handcuffs and shackles. Some had their handcuffs and shackles tied together, which meant they were constantly bent over 90 degrees, unable to walk.
Mr Jiang Minghui's mother often visited him in prison over the years, and each time she counted the days remaining until she could next see him. Most times she was not allowed to see her son, and this caused her great worry, as it usually meant that he was being tortured.
Mr. Jiang Minghui, in his 30's, used to work at the Lanzhou city economical trade committee enterprise. On the 12th December 2004, while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution to people in the Yantan area of Lanzhou City, he was arrested by police officers, Peng Chongjun and He Jijun, from Yanyuan Road Police Station. At approximately 1am the next day, Mr. Jiang's home was ransacked by Chen Zhikai and Peng Chongjun, police officers from the national security of Chengguan Police Station. They confiscated Falun Gong materials and personal belongings including computers, printers, a bicycle along with other things.
Between 3am and 4am the same morning, they went to Mr. Jiang's mother's home, and took her to the Chengguan Police Station when she was handcuffed and kept overnight. The next day, people from her workplace, the Gansu television factory, and officers from Lanzhou Donggang west road police station transferred her to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Centre for more than three months to suffer further persecution.
Mr. Jiang Minghui was detained at the Dashaping Detention Centre, Lanzhou City, for ten months. During that time Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents from the detention centre would not let his family visit him, and even forced his family to buy them cigarettes and meals worth more than 3,000 Yuan1. His family sent Jiang Minghui an under-garment to keep him warm, but it never reached him.
On the 17th May 2005, Jiang Minghui was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Chengguan district Renmin Court in Lanzhou, without even notifying his family. During the court proceedings Mr. Jiang was handcuffed and had foot shackles on. In October 2005, Mr. Jiang was transferred from the detention centre to Lanzhou Prison. In the prison he was transferred many times and has been in the No.8, No.10 and the central team.
In January 2006, practitioners Mr. Jiang Minghui, Wang Luchuan and Guo Xueze were detained in the Lanzhou Prison central team for further persecution. On the 13th February 2006, Mr. Jiang Minghui and Wang Yongpo were locked in solitary confinement around the clock, where Mr. Jiang was beaten by prison guard Chen Xing every day for more than 40 days.
During his prison sentence, Jiang Minghui's arms were crushed and injured, his front teeth were knocked out, he suffered tremendously whilst in solitary confinement and was forced to work for long hours of slave labour. The prison stopped Mr. Jiang's family visiting him. Mr. Jiang Minghui has become both mentally and physically weak from the long-term brutal torture.
In 2008, practitioners Yang Yinghai, Jiang Chunbing, Li Fubing, Wei Xingzhu, Chang Jubing, and Jiang Minghui were put in solitary confinement in Lanzhou prison and were again forced to wear handcuffs and shackles for two to three months, with some practitioners again tied with handcuffs and shackles linked together.
Also in 2008, CCP officials, used the excuse "To maintain security for the Olympic Games," to stop Mr. Jiang Minghui's family from visiting him until in November 2008. When his family was finally able to see him they could see for themselves the state of Jiang Minghui's health.
