Recent Incidents of Falun Gong Practitioners Being Arrested by Police in Daqing City

The following are incidents of Falun Gong practitioners being taken into custody by officers of Wolitun Police Station in Daqing City during the nine-month period from January to September, 2008.

1. Mr. Lu Jigui arrested three times

Mr. Lu Jigui, 55, from Wolitun, Daqing City, is employed at the Daqing Petroleum and Chemicals Corporation.

In the middle of the day on February 1st, 2008, Wolitun Police Station officers deceived Lu Jigui into leaving his home and nabbed him. They took him to the Longfeng Detention Centre in Daqing City. This happened because he had written an open letter to Communist regime leaders Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao, asking them to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. He gave the letter to his employer's Party secretary and asked him to forward it on through his superiors, but was reported instead.

Lu Jigui refused to cooperate with any orders from the detention centre guards and went on a hunger strike to protest the unlawful detention. He was brutally force-fed several times and became physically very weak. He was released and returned home on February 21st, 2008.

On February 26th, 2008, the police again nabbed Lu Jigui. The persecutors ransacked his home and confiscated two bags of his personal belongings. He was again taken to the Longfeng Detention Centre where he was subjected to severe mistreatment.

On March 6th, 2008, the police sent the extremely weak practitioner to a hospital for treatment. He managed to escape and went home. However, not knowing his phone was tapped, he called a relative from home on March 11th. Within ten minutes after he hung up the phone, two police cars arrived at his doorstep and he was again arrested.

2. Mr. Sun Rulin arrested and sent to a forced labour camp

Mr. Sun Rulin, 67, is a retired official from Anda City Railway System.

At around 3:00 p.m. on March 4thj, 2008, Wolitun Police Station officials dispatched three police cars and more than ten policemen to arrest Sun Rulin. They beat the older man into unconsciousness in his rented unit and took him away. The police also took two or three bags of his personal belongings.

Sun Rulin was subjected to cruel torture while in police custody, to the point that he lost consciousness. He was taken to the Daqing No. 4 Detention Centre (the West Detention Centre in the Longfeng factory) for unlawful detention. The police interrogated Sun Rulin many times, who exclaimed each time, "Falun Gong is good! The police are beating people. Falun Gong is good!"

In early April 2008, agents from the 610 Office¹ at the Daqing National Security Division colluded with Wolitun Police Station officials and fabricated charges against Sun Rulin. Mr. Sun was unlawfully sentenced to two years of forced labour and was sent to the Suihua Forced Labour Camp.

3. Retired employee Ms. Jiang Fengqin arrested and sentenced to eight years of imprisonment

Ms. Jiang Fengqin, 56, is a retired employee from the Daqing Petroleum and Chemicals Corporation.

Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on March 4th, 2008, officers from the Wolitun Police Station and the Daqing City Police Department took Ms. Jiang Fengqin from her home while she was looking after her grandson. Her home was searched and ransacked. The police took away four or five big string bags of her belongings, including leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, CDs and personal belongings, as well as a bankbook and over 10,000 yuan² in cash.

The persecutors ruthlessly tortured Ms. Jiang. They put mustard oil on a mask and put it on her mouth. They also rubbed mustard oil directly into Jiang Fengqin's eyes, nose and mouth. This caused her to be unable to breathe, with great pain and tears running from her eyes. She subsequently lost consciousness.

Jiang Fengqin was sentenced to eight years in prison and is currently incarcerated in Ward 11 at the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison.

4. Han Yunhua, Ms. Zhao Yumei and two other practitioners arrested and subjected to cruel torture

Ms. Zhao Yumei, 46, is an employee of the Daqing Petroleum and Chemicals Corporation.

Agents from the Wolitun Police Station and from the Daqing City Police Department arrested her shortly after 10:00 p.m. on March 4th, 2008. Her house was searched and ransacked, and a computer was confiscated. She is currently held at the Daqing No. 1 Detention Centre.

The same persecutors named above arrested Mr. He Biao and his wife Ms. Han Yunhua at 3:00 p.m. on March 5th, 2008. He Biao's elder sister from Zhaodong City, who had arrived three days earlier, was visiting him at the time. She too was taken.

Zhao Yumei and Han Yunhua were subjected to savage torture at the Daqing No. 1 Detention Centre. The guards force-fed Han Yunhua six bottles of mustard oil. Zhao Yumei was also force-fed with mustard oil until she lost consciousness, had a heart attack and almost died. The abusers put mustard oil on a mask and put it on her mouth. They also rubbed mustard oil into her eyes, nose and mouth. She was unable to breathe and tears ran from her eyes. She suffered in great pain until she lost consciousness.

Ms. Zhao was sentenced to one year of forced labour and sent to the Harbin Drug Rehabilitation Centre for further persecution, but failed the physical exam and returned home on April 30th, 2008.

Ms. Han was released in late March and went home. Her employer, the Daqing Petroleum and Chemicals Corporation No. 2 Factory refused to re-employ her and froze her income.

Wolitun Police Station officers, in conjunction with the factory's Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leaders, again nabbed her on July 10th, 2008, at around 3:00 p.m., searched and ransacked her house, and confiscated an MP3 player, two electronic books and some Falun Gong books and materials. This led to Han Yunhua's incarceration at the Longfeng Detention Centre for a week.

5. Mr. Cui Hongyi, in his seventies, was arrested because the Central Communist Party Committee was about to hold a conference

Mr. Cui Hongyi, who is in his seventies, went to visit one of his daughters in Harbin in March 2008. As soon as he arrived there, officer Zhang Baotai from the Wolitun Police Station arrested him and took him to the police precinct at the railway station and kept him there until dark. The reason for this was that the Central Party Committee would hold a conference soon.

In the middle of the night on July 11th, 2008, more than twenty police officers, including Li Yan and Li Guiyi from Wolitun Police Station, nabbed Cui Hongyi, who was asleep at home. They also took a Falun Gong book and five cassette tapes. They held him in detention until 4:00 a.m. He was arrested because the CCP was planning to run an Olympic torch relay in Daqing on July 12th.

6. Ms. Gao Yanxia, Ms. Yuan Qing and Ms. Gao Fengling were arrested and sentenced to prison

At around 9:30 a.m. on July 23rd, 2008, Longfeng District Court agents in Daqing City put practitioners Yuan Qing and Gao Yanxia on trial. Other practitioners put on trial in the same court were Gao Fengling and Du Deping. Gao Yanxia was sentenced to five years in prison, and Yuan Qing was given four years. Gao Fengling was sentenced to four years in prison, and Du Deping was given three and a half years.

Before the Olympic torch arrived in Daqing, the CCP issued a secret order with regard to sentencing Falun Gong practitioners, which required the court to sentence them more severely.

7. Ms. Song Shanfeng, Ms. Li Xiuxiang, Ms. Cong Lixia and Liu Fengyun arrested

Shortly after 10:00 a.m. on May 27th, 2008, Wolitun Police Station officers and officers from the Daqing Development Zone arrested practitioners Song Shanfeng and Li Xiuxiang. Their homes were ransacked and a computer and two printers, as well some household goods, were confiscated.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. on July 8th, 2008, Fifth Team leader Li Yan from the Wolitun Police Station, along with four or five other policemen including Chang Shuxue, took practitioner Cong Lixia from her home. Cong Lixia's daughter tried to stop them, but the police took her along with her mother to the Wolitun Police Station and held them for several hours before they were released.

On the afternoon of July 10th, 2008, Wolitun Police Station officers arrested practitioner Liu Fengyun at her home.
