Professor Xu Yin of Tsinghua University in Beijing made a statement in which he explains why he practises Falun Gong and his plight of being incarcerated for two years for practising Falun Gong. Professor Xu Yin also announced in the statement his intention to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its two affiliated student leagues that he was once a member of. The following is the complete statement of Professor Xu Yin.

My Statement

My name is Xu Yin. I am 46 years old. I have been teaching at the Civil Engineering Department at Tsinghua University in Beijing for 13 years and have received very good reviews by my peers and students. I have been repeatedly rated as one of the top 5% of the faculty in the end-of-term faculty evaluation. I have been a highly respected and popular professor here. I am currently an associate professor at the Civil Engineering Department of Tsinghua University.

I was determined to do a good teaching job and educate my students well as my humble efforts to contribute to the Chinese society. To attain this goal, I had devoted myself to education. But this has become wishful thinking. The CCP has deprived the Chinese people of their freedom of belief. The CCP's police, the 610 Office1 established to suppress Falun Gong and the neighbourhood committee have stationed people outside of my home, watching every action of my family and me all day long. Even my phone and Internet communications have been under surveillance.

On March 13th, 2006, I didn't lock the metal security door of my home. That morning, about 20 policemen broke into my home and ransacked it. They failed to show any warrant or legal document, but they searched my home and arrested my wife and me. They told me that it's illegal to have Falun Gong books at home. But Falun Gong books were legally published by China Broadcast Television Publishing Company before the CCP started the persecution of Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999 and were among the top 10 best selling books in China. For having Falun Gong books at home, I was given a two-year jail sentence. I spent 16 months in Tuanhe Forced Labour Camp in Daxing, Beijing. During those 16 months, I was incarcerated in an isolation room for eight months where I was forced to sit still on a small stool facing the wall for 18-19 hours a day. The release document didn't list any legal charge for which I was imprisoned for two years. A well-respected college professor who had committed no crime was sentenced to two years in prison. What kind of political party is this? What kind of political regime is this? Is there any justice in China? Where do I go to seek justice?

After I was released, I continued to be monitored by China's Public Security Bureau and the management of my college. My personal freedom has been compromised. They threatened to fire me if I should persevere in practising Falun Gong. I refuse to give up my belief in Falun Gong. For that I am now in danger of being arrested and incarcerated a second time.

In China, I had nowhere to voice my pain and protest the harms the CCP caused my wife and child. Finally, I have come to the United States where I can speak freely. I must thank the United States, which allows me the freedom to speak out.

I separated myself from the CCP a long time ago. Today I would like to take this opportunity to make a solemn statement to announce my withdrawal from the CCP and its affiliated Youth League that I was once a member of. By doing so, I wish to cleanse the shame of having once joined the CCP and its Youth League. I am telling my story to the world's people so that the world will see the true nature of the CCP, which it lies, cheats and kills to conceal.
