According to inside sources, nearly 5000 Falun Gong practitioners were arrested and persecuted in Liaoning Province in July this year. In Tangshan City, Hebei Province, a family of five Falun Gong practitioners, Ms. Zhang Yueqing, husband Mr. He Yixing, their two daughters and one son-in-law, were recently arrested. Their homes were ransacked and their property and cash totalling over 600,000 yuan1 were confiscated. A happy and harmonious family was torn apart due to the persecution.

The Olympic Games should be a great sports event which embodies equality, freedom and peace. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) uses the Games as an excuse to trample human rights and persecute kindness. It reneged on its promise of improving human rights when the CCP applied to hold the Olympics. Instead, it has intensified its efforts to viciously persecute Falun Gong.

Mr. He Yixing had been a team leader of a car fleet at the Tangshan Power Plant for many years, while Ms. Zhang Yueqing was retired. The couple had been in very poor health before they started practising Falun Gong. Mr. He had been suffering from stomach disease and kidney stones for many years. Ms. Zhang suffered from heart disease, pyelonephritis, cerebral vascular calcification and allergies, and she frequently took medication. After they started practising Falun Gong, all their diseases disappeared. Upon witnessing the wonderfulness of Falun Gong, their two daughters and a son-in-law started practising Falun Gong as well. Since they all shared the same interest there was increased harmony in the entire family. Simply for practising Falun Gong, the family members have been detained and harassed many times.

On the morning of July 10th, Zhang Yueqing was suddenly surrounded by several police cars outside her home. Police agent Zhou from the Tangshan City Police Department and Chen Hong from the Lubei District Domestic Security Division led some police agents to break into Zhang's home. They damaged the lock but still couldn't open the door. They then mobilized two fire engines, used an auto-lift ladder to climb to the sixth floor and smash two windows. They broke into the house through the windows and arrested the couple.

According to witnesses, the police also arrested three more residents including Liu Suying, Liu Guoyao and another woman. The police searched the house without showing a warrant. They confiscated a computer, a printer and other property. They also stole over 600,000 yuan that Zhang Yeqing's eldest daughter had borrowed to invest in a business with partners. The house was a horrible sight.

On that morning, the perpetrators went to the New District Thermal Power Plant and Tanggang Southern District Machine Repair Factory. They arrested Zhang's second daughter, He Yan and their son-in-law, Sun Fengli. They also ransacked their home.

All seven people arrested were detained at the Tangshan City First Detention Centre.

Lubei Domestic Security Division officials fabricated a story saying that the money they stole from Zhang Yueqin's home was from overseas Falun Gong practitioners to be used in local activities. They hope to keep the money under this false pretence.

The couple's eldest daughter, He Dan, was a partner in a fashion business. One can imagine the pressure she was under when she learned what had happened to her family. He Dan was uneasy and deeply worried. She tried to find out the whereabouts of her family members and approached the police to get her money back. On July 29th, the perpetrators from the Lubei District Domestic Security Division ordered He Dan to go to the Lubei District Police Department to have a discussion. Upon her arrival there, they arrested her and sent her to the Tangshan City Detention Centre.

Due to their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, Zhang Yueqing's family was repeatedly persecuted. After Jiang Zemin's, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] regime started the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, He Yixing was demoted and put under house arrest and Zhang Yueqing was detained at her factory for several months. In 2001, three members of the family, Zhang Yueqing, He Yixing and He Yan, were persecuted at the same time. Zhang Yueqing was detained at the Xiaobali brainwashing centre in Fengrun District for eight months. She later was transferred to the brainwashing centre at Tangshan Textile University where she was detained for over two months. She was deprived of sleep and had a heart attack. He Yixing was under house arrest at the Tangshan Power Plant for over two months and later sent to the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp. She was detained for two or three months there. He Yan was placed under house arrest at the New District Thermal Power Plant and was then detained at the brainwashing centre at Tangshan Textile University. They were all inhumanely persecuted. In November 2004, perpetrators from the Lunan District Police Department and the Yonghongqiao Police Station arrested the Zhang Yueqing and He Yixing couple when they were at the Hehuakeng Market. During broad daylight, five or six police agents beat the elderly couple with their fists and tore apart Zhang's coat.

Zhang Yueqing's family is just one of the millions of the families who are persecuted in China. Their suffering is only a tip of the iceberg of countless abuse inflicted upon Falun Gong practitioners during the past nine years of persecution.
