Falun Gong Practitioner Wei Danqun of Shanhaiguan Sent To Prison in Critical Condition

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wei Danquan from Shanhaiguan in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province was arrested, put on trial twice and finally sentenced to four years of imprisonment. Even though Wei Danquan has appealed this sentence, he was sent to Jidong Prison in Tangshan City.

Wei Danquan is an ex-army officer stationed at the Shanhaiguan Airport. He was suspended from his duties for practising Falun Gong. He has been persecuted many times. He was arrested, detained, tortured with torture devices and sentenced to imprisonment. He has been monitored, and his house was ransacked and property confiscated. The constant persecution throughout the years caused his health to deteriorate. He started having heart problems, a chest infection, pulmonary tuberculosis and he even vomited a large amount of blood. He is in critical condition.

Relevant reports concerning this case:
On July 2nd, 2008, Wei Danquan did not accept the sentence and thus he appealed to the Qinhuangdao City Intermediate People's Tribunal. Later the tribunal refused to hold a trial and the original sentence remained in place.

On July 28th-30th, during the period when Wei Danquan was incarcerated, his wife was also harassed and monitored by the residence committee.

On August 3rd, Wei Danquan was sent to Jidong Prison in Tangshan City.
