Many Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in Jilin City Due to the Olympic Torch Relay

The Olympic Torch arrived in Jilin City on June 15th. The 610 Office1, the Political and Legal Committee, and the police department were responsible for the arrests of many practitioners. Brainwashing sessions were held in an old building near the 205 Factory of the Jilin Chemical Company. Every practitioner was put in solitary confinement. Those in charge tried to brainwash every one of them every day.

Ms. Che Didi, a young teacher from the 25th School in the Chuanying District of Jilin City, was arrested and detained in the brainwashing centre. Her daughter was only six years old. Practitioners in all areas were harassed.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials in Jilin City have been holding oppressive brainwashing sessions for several years.

To Welcome the Olympic Torch, Officials in the Daqing Area Intensified the Persecution of Falun Gong

To welcome the Olympic Torch, police in Daqing area arrested quite a few practitioners. They also went to practitioners' homes to harass them. On July 10th, Chengfeng police officials contacted Ms. Han Xiumei 's son and told him that she and he should come to the station to pick up a mobile phone and cash that had been confiscated when their home was ransacked . The next morning Ms. Han's son went to the police department by himself. At about 10 a.m. two policewomen in plain-clothes went to Ms. Han's home and told her to pick up the phone in person. She didn't listen to them and wouldn't go. The two officers said that their director was waiting for her. When they saw that she was determined not to go, they reported to their team leader downstairs. He went upstairs and threatened Ms. Han, "You have to go with us whether you want to or not. Even if you don't want your phone back, you still have to go."

Their purpose was obvious. They used the return of her phone to attempt to secretly arrest her. She said to the police, "If anyone wants to do something to me today, the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong will not let you do it secretly." The police didn't dare do anything to her, but they took her son.

In the interest of Olympic Torch relay "safety," the CCP officials have behaved in an almost hysterical manner, seeing something suspicious everywhere they look. They made the students in primary and middle school go back to school on the morning of July 12th, 2008, when they should still have been on school holiday (The Olympic Torch was in Daqing from 8 a.m. To 10 a.m. on July 12th, 2008) to have the teachers watch over them. Workers and staff had to work on weekends in many places because the CCP was scared of something unexpected happening.

While the Olympic Torch Was in Yuncheng, Shanxi, the CCP Seemed to Be Bracing for a Formidable Enemy

On June 25th, 2008, the Olympic Torch arrived the Yuncheng Area in Shanxi Province. The city was organized as if it had to face a formidable enemy. Many officers were brought in from other places, including those from the subordinate counties. It was said that several hundred police were summoned to Yuncheng from the Linfen Area. They limited the freedom of the local people. Some people finished work and should have gone home but they were not allowed to and had to work 32 hours in a row, until 4 p.m. on June 25th. During these 32 hours, work unit leaders were put on duty to monitor their staff.

Some practitioners refused to work the night shift because they thought it was unreasonable and went home. But they were followed. One practitioner noticed that two men and two women followed her from 4 p.m. July 24th to 8 a.m. July 25th, until they saw her go into her work unit. When she warned them not to violate the freedom of a citizen, the Party secretary of the work unit said, "It was an order from the Nancheng Police Department in Yanhu. If you want to lodge a complaint, go ahead."

All the counties under Yuncheng City were also responsible for monitoring and following practitioners. They forced practitioners to stay at home and "take care of their mothers." They sat all night in cars parked outside practitioners' houses. They said that if their superior came to check and found they were not there, they would be fined 200 yuan2.

Police from Yunchen City secretly investigated where the foreign teachers lived and stationed officers outside their houses. They gave orders that on June 25th these teachers would not be allowed to go out in public--they were only allowed to stay at home and watch TV. Otherwise they would be arrested and detained.

The CCP gave orders from higher levels to lower levels and threatened those who did not want to follow the orders with dismissal. They coerced many people to do bad things. They infringed on the freedom of innocent people, especially Falun Gong practitioners.

"To Protect the Olympics," the CCP Arrests Practitioners in Wuchang, Heilongjiang Province

Since June 2008, under the pretext of "protecting the Olympics," CCP officials in Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province, such as Liu Xing, deputy Party secretary of the CCP Municipal Committee; Sun Yanbin, director of the local police department; and Feng Zhiguo, deputy director, have mobilized a large number of police to arrest local practitioners.

Zhan Zhigang, Director of the National Security Division; Liu Bo, Deputy Director; Dong Weibao, Former Director of the Inspection Division; Fu Yanchun from the 610 Office; and Mo Zhenshan mobilized officers from the police stations in Chengxing and Xunli. They then used base means such as false pretences, following, stationing people outside practitioners' houses, ransacking homes, and monitoring. They arrested and detained eight practitioners: Chen Jing from Niujia Town, Liu Fang from Zhiguang Township, Sun Xiuyun, Dong Xiaodong, Xu Yanling, Wu Fenghua, Zhang Guojun, and Bai Yuqin from Wuchang City. They are currently detained at the custodial station in Wuchang City. Their family members went to see them but were not allowed to meet with them.

At 12 a.m. on June 27th, 2008, Feng Zhiguo, Deputy Director of the Police Department, and policemen Zhan Zhigang, Liu Bo, Tong Weibao, and other officials from the 610 Office drove four police cars to the home of practitioner Mr. Dong Xiaodong and arrested him. They used his mobile phone to call another practitioner and said to him "Dong Xiaodong was in a car accident! Please come immediately." They then lay in ambush for this practitioner.

Practitioners Xu Yanling, Wu Fenghua, and Liu Fang went on their bicycles to Mr. Dong Xiaodong's home. As soon as they went in the door, the police surrounded and arrested them. Liu Fang was severely beaten. They searched Mr. Dong's house and took away everything, including Falun Gong books, a taxi, and other items. They announced that the taxi would not be returned.

Zhan Zhigang instigated other police officers to take photos and film in an attempt to intensify the persecution. He detained four practitioners in the custodial station in Wuchang City. Practitioners' family members went to Zhan Zhigang and demanded the release of the practitioners, saying, "Why did you get them to leave home under false pretence and then arrest them?" Zhan Zhigang replied, "The order was given from above. Higher officials in Harbin City directly intervened. I am not in a position to make a decision. Go see them!" Practitioners' family members went everywhere to attempt to rescue them, but all their efforts were in vain.

On July 1st, 2008, Zhan Zhigang arrested practitioner Ms. Wu Fenghua and took her to the Drug Rehabilitation Centre in Harbin City. Her family members made phone calls to Zhan Zhigang, but he didn't answer. They went to see him but couldn't find him. Inside information from the police department showed that Ms. Wu managed to escape on the way to the rehabilitation centre even though she was handcuffed. Zhan Zhigang and other two police were detained by the Inspection Department and interrogated.

Ms. Wu Fenghua's heartbroken family members are very worried about her safety.
