On June 18th, 2008, seven or eight Chinese Communist Party (CCP) members from Salian Town, Miyi County, Sichuan Province, including Bai Tingfei and Gong Qibin, broke into and searched Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zeng Pinglan's home. Ms. Zeng was a practitioner in her sixties, and she was sick in bed at the time of the break-in. The CCP members harassed her, which aggravated her illness. Ms. Zeng died three days later on June 21st, 2008.

Prior to the 17th CCP Central Conference, CCP members from Miyi County searched many practitioners' homes and arrested them. On October 13th, 2007, the CCP police went to search Ms. Zeng Pinglan's house, and she refused to open the door for them. The police persisted by knocking loudly on her door. At that time, Ms. Zeng's son came back from field work carrying a sickle that he used in the fields. Ms. Zeng's son said simply, "Are you trying to knock down my door?" The CCP agents however, claimed that he was trying to attack people with the sickle, and they handcuffed him and detained him in the town hall for over a week.

At that time, Ms. Zeng's granddaughter begged the CCP agents not to take Ms. Zeng and her son away, but the agents completely ignored her and took her family members into custody.

Ms. Zeng Pinglan was released after being detained for over a month. When she reached the door to her home, her daughter-in-law, who was poisoned by the CCP propaganda, didn't allow Ms. Zeng to enter her house. She didn't let her come in until she promised that she would not go anywhere else and would only practise Falun Gong at home.

About two weeks later, Ms. Zeng started having multiple illness symptoms, including having lots of phlegm, being unable to eat, and throwing up. By June 2008, she was sick in bed. Ms. Zeng's daughter-in-law didn't allow any practitioners to visit Ms. Zeng at her home.

On June 18th, the so-called mediators from the Salian Town government, including Bai Tingfei, Gong Qibin and others, seven or eight people in total, searched Ms. Zeng's house and took her Falun Gong books. Ms. Zeng Pinglan, already very sick, after being harassed and frightened, died on June 21st, 2008.

Chinese Communist Party officials and police from Miyi County have been carrying out a large-scale persecution in the run-up to the Olympics. Practitioners from many towns, including Salian, Binggu, Yakou, and Xinhe, have been harassed at their homes. CCP officials also made a blacklist and planned a brainwashing session to "ensure the safety of the Olympic games." They have also made arrangements to monitor Falun Gong practitioners. In addition, the police distributed pamphlets that slandered Falun Gong, delivering them to all institutions, and local town and county government offices in order to poison people against Falun Gong.
