Before July 1999, there were many people practising Falun Gong in Lutai Township of Huaiyang, Henan Province. At that time, people were seeing compassion grow in their hearts and their moral standard was restored. Ever since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started persecuting Falun Gong, steadfast practitioners in the town have been brutally persecuted. The CCP's police have repeatedly harassed Falun Gong practitioner Zheng Xianjin's family. The couple was arrested and imprisoned many times and their three children were beaten mercilessly by the police. Mr. Zheng's mother-in-law was so worried about them in the prison that she became ill and passed away. Recently, Mr. Zheng was arrested for the fourth time and tortured in the prison.

In April 2001, Wang Shimin from Lutai police station in Huaiyang led about seven to eight policemen and intruded into Zheng Xianjin's home and confiscated the family's property. Even though they did not find any so-called evidence, the police arrested Mr. Zheng and his wife Wang Haomei and took them to Huaiyang police station. After the interrogation, the couple was forcefully sent to the detention centre for persecution. The police imprisoned Wang Haomei for eight months and Zheng Xianjin for seven months. They were released after being extorted out of 500 yuan1 each.

During the couple's imprisonment, their family's income was cut off. The three young children lived in an extremely difficulty situation. Because they did not have the money to pay tuition, the second daughter had to discontinue her studies. After Wang Haomei's mother found out that her daughter and son-in-law were in prison, she felt so much sadness, fear and anxiety that she became ill and her condition grew worse day-by-day.

In an effort to relieve the elderly woman's condition, the family went to the National Security Brigade asking for release of the couple. However, the police did not pay any attention. The elderly woman passed away on November 20th. After that, family members went to the Police Department to present a petition requesting a one day pass for Wang Haomei to attend her mother's funeral, but it was simply rejected by deputy political commissar, Ren Wei.

In the spring of 2002, Zheng Xianjin was travelling to Zhuji Township. When he was explaining the facts about Falun Gong to someone on the bus, he was reported to the police by a Dayanghai villager. After the local police station contacted the National Security Brigade, Zheng Xianjin was arrested and taken to the county detention centre. Mr. Zheng resisted the persecution by going on a hunger strike. He was imprisoned for four months. He was released after the police extorted 500 yuan from him.

On March 9th, 2003, when Zheng Xianjin was speaking with a friend, policemen Wang Shimin from Lutai and Wang Quandong from the National Security Brigade led five to six other police officers to break into Mr. Zheng's residence where they confiscated the family's property. Even though no "evidence" was found, Mr. Zheng was still forcefully arrested and taken to the detention centre. In the same evening, four other Falun Gong practitioners were arrested. One female practitioner was sent to a detention centre and three others were imprisoned in another detention centre. One officer with the surname Zhang tied three Falun Gong practitioners up and beat them mercilessly one by one. Later Zheng Xianjin was sentenced to two years in the forced labour camp.

On February 20th, 2004, Policeman Wang Shimin led seven to eight other police and once again broke into Ms. Wang Haomei's residence and confiscated the family's property. Even though they did not find any so called "evidence" they tried to force Wang Haomei to say slanderous things against Falun Gong's founder, Li Hongzhi. Wang Haomei refused. The police said, "If you don't comply, you will be arrested." As a result Wang Haomei was arrested and sent to the detention centre. Ms. Wang resisted the persecution by going on a hunger strike for more than ten days. Eventually, the police noticed that her life was in danger and they did not want to be responsible for her death, so they extorted 1,000 yuan from her family and let them take her home.

On June 18th, 2005, during the busy farming season, Lutai Township local police station Police Officer Wang Shimin conspired with a group of police under the pretext of an investigation and once more arrested Wang Haomei and took her to the detention centre. After Wang Haomei had been on a hunger strike for half a month, the police let her family take her home.

Around midnight on April 4th, 2006, Wang Shimin from Lutai Township local police station led seven to eight police and broke into Wang Haomei's residence and stole six leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong and one Falun Gong book. Then, they arrested Wang Haomei and took her to Huaiyang detention centre. In the detention centre, Wang protested the persecution with a hunger strike. Because her physical condition was extremely weak and her life was in danger, the detention centre reported to the National Security Brigade. Chief Chang Yijun paid no attention and without any conscience sentenced Wang Haomei to one year and three months in a forced labour camp.

On May 5th, 2008, Zheng Xianjin went shopping at Zhoukou. A policeman checked Zheng's ID card and arrested him. At 10:50 p.m. next day, police climbed over the fence and searched Zheng's temporary residence in Xiangcheng (it was rented when the couple was doing business to make a living there). Zheng's elder daughter said to the police, "You intruded into a citizen's home in the dark of midnight! Who are you? Why are searching our home?" Several police showed their identification. Two among them were from the Police Department of Zhoukou.

The police punched Zheng's two daughters and son in the face because they dared to question the police. Their faces were beaten black and blue. Some of the police went upstairs to other people's homes on the second and third floors and broke open the doors. Two door panels on the second floor were kicked open and one door panel on third floor was damaged badly. All daily necessities of Zheng Xianjin's family except for their pots, pans and bed were confiscated. The police also threatened them, saying; "We will not stop until we find what we're looking for."

According to an inside source, the police involved were from Xiangcheng, Zhoukou, Huaiyang, and Lutai.

At present, Zheng Xianjin is still suffering under brutal persecution in the Huaiyang Detention Centre.
