Mr. Cui Guangyong, 38, was a Falun Gong practitioner who lived in Zhuanjiaolou Village, Dongxin Township, Wangqing County in Jilin Province. After he began practising Falun Gong in 1996, he became physically and spiritually healthy. He was ready and willing to help others and became a popular accountant.

However, after the persecution began on July 20th, 1999, he was not allowed to practise Falun Gong because of pressure applied by the local police departments. Some of the village officials frequently went to Mr. Cui's home to harass him, both physically and psychologically. He was forced to leave his job and was sentenced to forced labour twice. Those same officials extorted thousands of yuan1 from his family.

Mr. Cui's parents became so fearful that they trembled when they heard someone knock at the door. Mr. Cui provided the only financial support for the entire family. In October of 2007, during the harvest season, police officers from the county department arrested Mr. Cui without any legal paperwork, and he was again sentenced to forced labour. His health declined due to injuries from torture at the forced labour camp. After he was released, he died on May 29th, 2008, as a result of this persecution.
