This is a belated report. Mr. Jiang Chengjiu and his wife Li Fengqin lived in Boli County, Heilongjiang Province. Ms. Li died as a result of the persecution in 2004, and Mr. Jiang died in 2006 as a result of the persecution.

Mr. Jiang Chengjiu, 61, had 6,000 yuan1 extorted from him in 2000. In April and May 2001, the busy planting season, the couple was arrested and detained in Boli County Detention Centre. They were both sentenced to forced labour in October 2001.

Ms. Li Fengqin was taken to the Harbin City Drug Rehabilitation Centre, but failed the physical. She was then incarcerated in the Boli County North Prison. The Prison Administration had to release her when she was in critical condition, but they extorted 2,000 yuan from her children. In November 2004, she died, unable to recover from the mistreatment she suffered while in detention.

Mr. Jiang Chengjiu was sent to Suihua City Forced Labour Camp for a two-year term. He was released in 2003. On September 3rd, 2004, officers from the Boli County 610 Office2, Police Department, and Qiangken Police Station arrested him again when he was attending a Falun Gong experience sharing discussion in Taisheng Village. They detained him without allowing any visitation rights. They again sentenced him to three years of forced labour and took him to Suihua City Forced Labour Camp on October 27th, 2004. His wife died about two weeks later.

Mr. Jiang refused to write the Three Statements3 or succumb to the brainwashing. Guards cruelly tortured him, causing him to go deaf in on ear, and his legs and buttocks were covered with bruises. In November 2004, guards Liu Wei, Chen Xinlong, and Lian Xing (all male) beat Mr. Jiang terribly to the point of near death. The Camp Administration notified his family to pick him up. They tried to extort 2,000 yuan from them, but his children refused to pay it. He died on November 15th, 2006, only 18 days after returning home.

Note

1. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.

2. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

3. "Three Statements": Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write "Repentance Statement," "Guarantee Statement" or 'Dissociation Statement" as proof that they have given up their belief. In the statement, the practitioner is forced to admit remorse for practising Falun Gong, promise to give up Falun Gong, and never again associate with other practitioners or go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.
