1. Xinhua News Agency fabricates stories, Weifang CCP arranges persecution

Since November 2007, a reporter from the Xinhua News Agency whose hometown is Anqiu, Shandong Province, came to Weifang to fabricate news articles that promoted the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police. It is said that the propaganda department in Weifang was cold to him, so he went to Anqiu and Shouguang by himself to videotape Falun Gong banners and scrolls on the street. Later he made a 60-minute VCD and submitted it to the Central Propaganda Department and the 610 Office1. Afterwards, Party Secretary of Weifang, Zhang Xinqi was called to Beijing and criticized. After Zhang returned, he was angry and called a meeting of the Weifang CCP. They arranged for the renewed persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Weifang, and especially emphasized Shouguang and Anqiu. Zhang Xinqi personally went to Shouguang to organize a new round of persecution.

Shouguang CCP Secretary Liu Zhonghui planned and directed the persecution in many meetings and ordered people to "struggle with Falun Gong." Shouguang TV broadcast a meeting, and the Shouguang Daily newspaper defamed Falun Gong. The Political Committee, 610 Office agents, and police were all called out. They removed the banners, monitored practitioners, asked others to monitor and report on practitioners, and announced that no single Falun Gong banner was allowed.

On January 2008, before taking a holiday, the Political Committee and Education Bureau called a meeting at Weifang Scientific Technology College to slander Falun Gong. They forced employees and students to sign a petition, organized university students to give speeches to oppose Falun Gong, and made a lot of display boards slandering Falun Gong and poisoning the minds of teachers and students. They even broadcast it on TV. Although they made a big announcement, the overall response was cold. Few people cooperated. The boards were not taken to any other school either.

2. Many Falun Gong practitioners detained and monitored

On March 7th during a CCP meeting, a practitioner from Shouguang, Ms. Zhang Shuli went to Beijing to appeal for justice and was arrested. Using this as an excuse, CCP officers arrested many practitioners.

Dozens of practitioners from Hou Town were arrested. They were detained in a yard in Wutai Village. Some practitioners who worked in the city were also apprehended, including Li Jinhui, Zhang Chunqing, and Xiao Wang.

Practitioners in various districts of Shouguang were persecuted. Several practitioners on Luocheng Street were detained, The Zhang Dinghong couple from Nanguang Village were detained, and a practitioner from Xiguang Village was tracked by police wherever he went. The Broadcast Bureau dispatched a special vehicle to watch practitioners in their homes and refused to let them go outside. Practitioners from Weifang Scientific College, Shouguang No. 1 Middle School, and the Experimentation School were monitored and harassed.

Three practitioners went to see a sick practitioner and were traced by police officers. One of them was followed to his daughter's job and was apprehended. His wife went to reason with the police, so they released him. Another practitioner managed to lose the police who were following him. A third person was tracked to his home. He inquired, "Why did you follow me?" The police could not answer and left. According to the 610 Office, sixteen practitioners were forced to leave their homes in order to avoid arrest.

Ms. Liang Li is a practitioner from a broadcast bureau. Since she continued to practise Falun Gong, she was dismissed and has not been paid a salary for eight years. The police often went to her home to harass her and try to "transform2" her. Her husband could not bear the intense pressure and jumped off a tall building to commit suicide. Recently, 610 Office agents looked for Ms. Liang everywhere. They could not find her at home, so the broadcast centre dispatched a vehicle to Beijing to look for her, but in vain.

It is said that the head of the Shouguang CCP is going to confiscate the IDs and photos of all Falun Gong practitioners in their area.

Note

1. "The 610 office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.

2. "Reform or Transform" Implementation of brainwashing and torture in order to force a practitioner to renounce Falun Gong. (Variations: "reform", "transform", "reformed", "reforming", "transformed", "transforming", and "transformation")
