Li Jianguang, a police officer from the Zhaoyuan City Domestic Security Division in Shandong Province, has been involved in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners for the past nine years. Despite the fact that his evil behaviour was exposed many times on the Clearwisdom website, he never stopped committing crimes. Instead, he used ever more insidious methods to persecute practitioners.

Toward the end of 2007, Li Jianguang led police to arrest more than 40 practitioners in Zhaoyuan City in just three weeks. The police took them to the notorious Lingnan Gold Ore Brainwashing Centre, where Li Jianguang and his men frequently went to persecute the practitioners. The following are details of some typical cases.

Ms. Lan Jucui is a practitioner in her 40s from Zhangxing Township. She was physically assaulted from time to time in the brainwashing centre. One day, Li Jianguang continually slapped her face until he was exhausted. Then he humiliated her by kicking her crotch until she fainted and vomited.

Another practitioner from Zhangxing Township, Ms. Wang Haohong, 41, owned a small business. She has been arrested several times over the last eight years. On July 23rd, 2001, Ms. Wang and her husband had to become homeless to avoid further persecution, and they left their child in her mother's care. In September 2007, Ms. Wang went to Jining City, Shandong Province. On September 12th, she was arrested by officers from the Nanxinzhuang Police Station in Jining City and detained in the East District Police Department for almost a month. She went on a hunger strike to protest. On October 7th, 2007, she was transferred to Lingnan Gold Ore Brainwashing Center. On or around November 20th, 2007, Li Jianguang and Wang Guihong (a former practitioner who went astray) intended to "transform1" Ms. Wang Haohong and promised that she would be immediately released as long as she renounced Falun Gong. They handcuffed her and deprived her of sleep. A week later her feet had become so swollen that she couldn't put her shoes on. She ultimately relented in the wake of this merciless torture but was never set free. On the contrary, she was beaten by Li Jianguang. After six months of persecution, Ms. Wang Haohong developed severe diabetes, but the centre authorities still refused to release her.

A retired couple, Ms. Yang Juxiang and Mr. Wang Junguang, both in their 60s, were also captured and taken to the brainwashing centre. Their house was searched by the police, who found some Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution, including a warning letter for Li Jianguang. This infuriated Li Jianguang, who began a campaign of revenge against the couple. In one month, Li Jianguang beat Wang Junguang four times. Every time, Mr. Wang's gums bled and his shrieks of pain shocked the whole building. His wife, Ms. Yang Juxiang, experienced similar mistreatment. Li Jianguang slapped her face with Falun Gong books, until her eyes were blackened and her face was disfigured. When she came down from the room upstairs where she was beaten, she was unrecognizable. After three months of torture, the couple were sentenced to one year of forced labour, their sentences to be served at home.

Ms. Cheng Wenlian, 70, from Taishang Village, Jinling Town, was also frequently beaten by Li Jianguang. She consequently developed abdominal pains so severe that she became bedridden.
