Since the beginning of 2008, the Chinese Communist Party has persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in the name of the Olympic Games. There have appeared many cases of practitioners being either arrested or persecuted to death. Recently, several practitioners from Hanting District, Weifang City, Shangdong Province were arrested and fined by the Public Security Bureau's National Security Team. Those mainly in charge were Yan Fengshan and Yu Jianzheng.

On March 22nd, Ms. Song Xiulan, a practitioner from Hanting District, Weifang City was arrested at home by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officers. Her property, worth a total of around 20,000 yuan1, was also confiscated. This was her second arrest; she was previously arrested and fined 10,000 yuan on July 2nd, 2006.

Ms. Song, 58 years old, is a retired employee of the Supply and Marketing Centre. When she started practising Falun Gong, she became healthier and required herself to follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. However, simply for being a good person and following these principles, she was arrested by the police, bringing great harm to her family and relatives.

On March 23rd, 2008, several policemen led by Yu Jianzheng broke into Meng Deyi's home, confiscating his computer, printer, two DVDs, a VCD player and Falun Gong books, worth a total of about 3,500 yuan, and cash totalling 1,500 yuan. They took Meng Deyi to the Public Security Bureau and then ordered his family to give them 15,000 yuan before they would release him. His family pleaded for a lesser fine of seven thousand yuan and Meng Deyi went home in the morning. The police extorted from Meng Deyi (including cash and property) a total of about 12,000 yuan.

On March 25th, a female practitioner with the surname Wang was arrested. Her home was searched and she was fined (the exact amount is unknown). She has returned home.
