On March 20th, 2008, five practitioners, including Shi Mengwei, Tian Baoyu, Yu Fengxian, and two others from Jiansanjiang District, Fujin City, Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, were arrested by multiple police officers from Qixin Police Station in Jiansanjiang. The practitioners had been distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong. On March 21st, the police ransacked the homes of these practitioners. The practitioners are currently being detained at Qixin Brainwashing Centre (inside Qixin Detention Centre).

The following are some of the facts about the persecution that has been carried out by officials and police officers in the Jiansanjiang District since the persecution began on July 20th, 1999.

Jiansanjiang is a remote, small town, but it is one of the worst areas in the whole country in terms of the persecution of Falun Gong. Officials from the Jiansanjiang District have followed the dictates of Jiang Zemin's [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] regime closely. Since July 20th, 1999, more than 30 practitioners from the district have been sentenced to prison or forced labour. Several hundred practitioners have been detained and their homes ransacked, some have lost their jobs, and some people have been fined up to 10,000 yuan1. In total, several thousand people have been affected in some way by this persecution. The "transformation2" centre in Jiansanjiang has detained hundreds of practitioners, some for as long as two years. This jail, a place that secretly houses those who have been deprived of their freedom without any legal procedures having been followed, is shown off by the government officials of Jiansanjiang in order to receive awards.

Practitioners detained in the brainwashing centre are subjected to brutal physical and mental abuse. Some are beaten until they have bruises all over their bodies, their teeth are missing, and they cannot get out of bed for days. Sometimes they are not given any food or water and are not allowed to use the toilet. In October 2006, Ms. Jin Jinzhe, a practitioner nearly 60 years old, was tortured by several guards in the Detention Station of Qianjin Town. Three guards took turns slapping her until they were tired. She was forced to hold her face to the wall and spread out her body. Once her posture changed even a bit, she was beaten, and further abuse followed. She had to kneel on a sofa with her hands tied behind her and her forehead touching the ground. A stick was placed behind her as the guards stood by, humiliating and insulting her. This kind of torture continued for six days. Her face lost its original colour and she was unrecognizable. Later, she was transferred to the so called "Transformation" Centre in Jiansanjiang and detained for more than a month before she was finally released. Families of practitioners have been destroyed; many have lost their loved ones; wives have had to leave their husbands; children have had to leave their parents; many practitioners had to flee from home, some becoming extremely poor; and others have lost their jobs or cannot go to school. Some family members die early because of the pressure of persecution. Some practitioners give up the practice under severe persecution, and as a result suffer a relapse of their old diseases and die.
