Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Wen'ai, 61, lived in Leshan City, Sichuan Province. She was arrested multiple times because she kept her faith in Falun Gong, and she was sentenced to six and a half years in prison after she was arrested on May 25th, 2005. Ms. Chen was detained in the Sichuan Province Women's Prison located in Jianyang City. The Prison Administration released her at the end of July 2007 because she was dying from the brutal mistreatment. Ms. Chen never recovered and died on February 24th, 2008.

Ms. Chen made public her account of the persecution that she suffered before she was arrested for the last time in May 2005. A summary can be found below.

I am a Falun Gong practitioner, 58 years old, and I began cultivating in 1996. I had so many diseases, was often bedridden, could not take care of myself, and felt so much pain that I wanted to die. After I started cultivating Falun Gong, all of my sicknesses were cured, and I changed into a new person. I used to get angry over not getting a five-yuan1 raise in my salary, but now I am upbeat because Falun Gong taught me to think about others first and to be an unselfish person. But on the night of July 20th, 1999, this great practice started being brutally and unreasonably persecuted. The persecution created huge pressure and suffering for me and my family. Now I am forced to stay away from my own home.

After lunch on August 5th, 2001, domestic security agents Wu Wei (male), Wang Aiping (male), an unknown female agent from the Leshan City Police Department, Leshan Paper Mill Security Office Chairman He Siyuan (male), and security guard Liu Laosi (male) stormed into my home, asking if I still practised Falun Gong. I answered, "This is a good practice; I want to keep practising it." They forcibly took me into custody at the Zhanggongqiao Police Station. I escaped the next day and hid out of town for eight months.

On April 3rd, 2002, I was waiting at a bus stop out of town when suddenly a black car drove up, and two men arrested me and forced me into the car. On the same day, Leshan City Domestic Security agent Wang Aiping and two others took me to be detained in the Shizhushan Detention Centre in Leshan City, where they held me for 49 days. I went on hunger strike for nine days to protest. Domestic security agent Wu Wei released me after my blood pressure shot up, and they extorted two thousand yuan from me. Upon returning home, we found that our phone was bugged, and there was always someone following me wherever I went.

In April 2003, my store manager Lu Ping and He Shunli came to my home and tried to persuade me to go to a brainwashing session. They said that it was only for a few days. My husband stopped them and said, "You know that she will go on hunger strike. Are you trying to kill her?"

On March 30th, 2004, two friends and I went to my home town in Hanyang Township. Suddenly, a man and a woman came over on a motorcycle. They said that they worked in the township government and that we had to go to the office. They detained us in the Qingshen Detention Centre in Leshan City overnight. The next day, Leshan City domestic security agents Wu Wei and Wang Aiping and a female officer from the Tongjiang Police Station detained us in the Shizhushan Detention Centre again and ransacked our homes. I went on hunger strike for nine days to protest. Centre Director Chen Zhongguo (male) and some male prisoners force-fed me brutally, causing my nose and mouth to bleed.

At around 3:00 p.m. on April 4th, 2005, I was walking down the street when two men pushed me into a black car. I saw agent Wang Aiping and another woman standing nearby. They detained me again in the Shizushan Detention Centre. I went on hunger strike without water for one week to protest. Director Chen Zhongguo took me to the 8815 Hospital and gave me an intravenous injection six times while my ankles were shackled. They also force-fed me ten times. My teeth were knocked loose, and my mouth and nose were bleeding. They added unknown drugs to the intravenous drip, causing my whole body to swell up. I felt pain and itchiness, and my hands and feet became numb.

On the day that they were the cruellest, they force-fed me three times. They punished the other prisoners because of my hunger strike, leading them to curse at and beat me. They did not allow me to sleep and forced me to sit up at night. By the nineteenth day, I could no longer even use the toilet by myself. They took me to the City Honghui Hospital to give me more intravenous injections. Agents Wu Wei, Wang Aiping, and others tried to force me to sign on a document to guarantee that I would "report to the police at any time." I resolutely refused, and they released me.

After I returned home after five days, six or seven people came to my home to harass me and threatened me, saying that I was not allowed to leave my house because they would bring me to trial at any time. I was forced to leave home again to avoid such persecution.
