On Wednesday, April 3, 2002 the Human Rights Parallel Forum held a day-long conference at the President Wilson Hotel in Geneva to address increasing concerns over the way that some governments that are the worst violators of human rights easily obtain seats on the United Nations Human Rights Commission to silence those they oppress. Falun Gong practitioners were invited to speak in a panel discussion about the Jiang regime's brutal persecution of Falun Gong and how the Chinese government continually attempts to stop Falun Gong from being discussed in the United Nations.

A statement was delivered to a shocked audience concerning the truth about the situation in China who couldn't understand why Jiang would persecute such peaceful people.

"According to various human rights groups, media reports, and government statements," the speaker said, "it is clear that China's human rights record is unacceptable, and getting worse. After reading thousands of cases and hearing hundreds of testimonials, we know that the state-sponsored violence is massive in scope and extreme in character."

The report went on to illuminate that "The means that the Chinese government has used to crush Falun Gong are shocking and totally unacceptable. One disturbing case is that of Ms. Zhao Xin, a 32-year-old lecturer in economics at Beijing Business University. After she was rounded up in a park for doing her exercises with her friends, police beat her so viciously that they crushed three of the vertebrae in her spine. She was paralysed from the neck down, and her vocal cords were damaged during surgery so she could no longer speak. Later, she died, and the police tried to interrupt the funeral procession organized by her university colleagues and students...

..We can imagine the despair of her family - all their efforts to appeal to the courts or to get some explanation from authorities about how their daughter could have been treated in this way have been dismissed."

Many details and statistics were then given about the number of deaths in custody and other heinous abuses of this terrorism against freedom of belief in China.
One of those cited was the diabolical order to "kill without mercy" following the achievement of the heroic practitioners in Changchun (broadcasting of truth clarifying material via state television cables).

Given the extreme situation in China, the United Nations were strongly urged "to take immediate action to

(1) pressure the Beijing regime to release those detained and imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners;

(2) hold hearings for victims of Falun Gong practitioners so that this largest modern-day atrocity in China is highlighted;

(3) use every opportunity and tool the UN has, to call for an end to Beijing's state-sponsored persecution and killing of Falun Gong practitioners."

The audience asked several questions and afterwards they asked for more truth clarifying materials. Many people were spoken with about Dafa after the Forum and they were all very supportive. One American woman said that she wished she had met the practitioners before Feb. 14, because she had wanted to go to Tiananmen Square to join their peaceful appeal.
