Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Guo Shunqiang from Haidian District, Beijing was arrested at home by police officers from the Qinghe County Police Station on the evening of April 20th, 2006. He was then sent to Tuanhe Forced Labour Camp and detained in the No. 1 Division where he suffers torture from inmates who are directed by the guards.

In order to "transform1" him, the labour camp police lock Mr. Guo Shunqiang in a single cell where he is allowed to sleep only 3 to 4 hours every night. The inmates, incited by the guards, verbally abuse him and beat him every day. They force him to sit on a small stool specially designed for a child, which is only six inches tall. They tie his legs and feet together, resulting in his upper and lower legs being forced to bend to less than 90 degrees. His hands are forced to be held on his knees and his back is forced to remain straight. He is then forced to stay in this motionless posture for long periods of time and is forbidden to move any part of his body. If he moves, the inmates will beat him and verbally abuse him. This "regular sitting", as it is called, is the most common method used to torture Falun Gong practitioners in the labour camp.

The guards only give Mr. Guo Shunqiang one steamed bun per meal. One day Mr. Guo Shunqiang refused to take the meal to protest the inhumane treatment against him, so they gave him two steamed buns instead. Mr. Guo Shunqiang reported to the guards that he was beaten and verbally abused by the inmates. Guard Tian Yu (male) replied,"They were not beating you. They were regulating your sitting posture."

One day Guard Wu Xuemi (male) came to talk to Mr. Guo Shunqiang at 1:00 a.m. Mr. Guo said that he was tired and wanted to sleep. Guard Wu refused this answer and wouldn't allow him to sleep. Mr. Guo said that if he was forbidden to sleep, he would do the Falun Gong exercises instead. Then Guard Wu ordered the inmates to tie Mr. Guo's hands and feet together with a rope. In the labour camp, Mr. Guo Shunqiang is not allowed to wash his face and teeth. He is only given one small cup of water every day to drink. During one period, he was forbidden to sleep for over ten days. Mr. Guo was forced to lie on a hard bed board at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning. Whenever he closed his eyes, the inmates kicked the bed to stop him from sleeping.

Mr. Guo has lost one or two of his front teeth when the inmates jammed a mop into his mouth and pressed down on his teeth because he shouted "Falun Dafa is good." Once, four or five inmates pulled and dragged Mr. Guo's arms and legs and held him on the ground to torture him.

The guards in Tuanhe Forced Labour Camp force the inmates to act as henchmen. They entice the inmates with the promise of term reductions. If a Falun Gong practitioner refuses to be "transformed", the guards look for an excuse to verbally abuse the inmates and threaten them with not reducing their terms, thus pressuring the inmates to torture Falun Gong practitioners.

Note

1. "Reform or Transform" Implementation of brainwashing and torture in order to force a practitioner to renounce Falun Gong. (Variations: "reform", "transform", "reformed", "reforming", "transformed", "transforming", and "transformation")
