On October 13th the festival opened on Yuhui Square to great excitement. The Tianwei Tang Dynasty Drum Troupe, composed of Falun Gong practitioners, started the performance. Their precise movements and resonant drumbeats stirred the audience. Legislator Lin Yishi, Deputy County Magistrate Ye Nanming, Village Head Zhang Wenshan, and sponsors of the activity entered the square in a traditional ox cart to announce the beginning of the Milkfish Art Festival.

By invitation, the Divine Land Marching Band performed at the opening celebration. The band of 160 Falun Gong practitioners performed "Falun Dafa Is Good," "Fa Drum and Fa Trumpet Shake the World of Ten Dimensions," "The Fa Rectifies the Universe," "Delivery of Treasure," and "Ode to Buddha's Grace." The host introduced the band, which has only been together for one year. The band members come from all walks of life and all ages. They have worked hard and spent their weekends practising in order to spread the benefits of Falun Dafa to local residents through their music. The audience was very touched. The band's beautiful and stirring melodies won high praise and brought a breath of fresh air to the audience.

Other activities at the festival included a shadow puppet show, a show of vintage ox carts, milkfish snacks, a milkfish auction, an exhibition of agricultural and fishing products, milkfish-themed games, and art performances by different groups. It was a very rewarding activity. People gained a great deal by experiencing the local culture and hearing the great news of Falun Dafa.
