Members of the spiritual movement Falun Gong will hold a candlelight vigil outside the Chinese embassy in Canberra to coincide with the visit of China's president Hu Jintao.

The action is aimed at highlighting to APEC leaders the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese regime - including allegations of organ harvesting.

"We believe that the visit of the Chinese communist leader to Australia provides an ideal opportunity for the Australian government to ask the Chinese leadership to release all Falun Gong practitioners detained in China and to immediately stop the practice of killing them for their organs," said Falun Gong practitioner Holly Wei.

Falun Gong and other groups have a regular presence outside the Chinese embassy in Canberra, where they protest Beijing's alleged human rights abuses.
