Falun Gong practitioners Xu Hui and Cai Chao are mother and son from Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. They went to Beijing together on July 20th, 2007. Mother and son unfolded a banner as a way of appealing for Falun Gong, but Beijing Tiananmen Police Station officers arrested and held them in the Beijing Dongcheng District Detention Centre for over a month. Her family members are very worried about them, especially for Cai Chao. When they saw him the last time, his face was swollen and deformed.

Prior to beginning Falun Gong practice, Xu Hui was very weak since childhood. She was so weak that she could fall at any time. She contracted typhoid fever at age 12, from which she almost died. At 16 she got pulmonary tuberculosis and had to leave school temporarily to recover. Because of her poor health, Ms. Xu waited to marry until age 33. But she became even more ill after getting married. Following the birth of her child she became afflicted with arthritis so severely that she had oedema all over her body. In 1993, due to circumstances at work, her lung disease recurred. Ms. Xu went on eight months of sick leave. During that time she had complications from arthritis, experienced chronic angle-closure glaucoma and high blood pressure. She spent every single painful day amid the suffering of illnesses and fatigue. She had completely lost hope in living, and cried all day. Two doctors suggested that she try qigong. She practised a few qigong methods, but none of them improved her health.

Later on she was introduced to Falun Gong. Through study and practising she understood the reasons behind illness and the purpose of being a human being. The three principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" have taken root in her heart and mind and she tries her best to follow these principles to conduct herself. She changed. All her illnesses disappeared quickly. She became light-hearted and joyful, and never haggled over minor matters. She got along well with her colleagues. Everyone commented that Xu Hui had changed into a different person after practising Falun Gong. Even the then-company Party secretary encouraged her to keep up her practice.

In 1999 the Communist Party and Jiang's regime started to persecute Falun Gong. Xu Hui's family has not lived a peaceful day from then on. Their home was repeatedly ransacked; they were constantly extorted, and she and her son were repeatedly kept in detention. Her family members lived in trepidation and horror all day long.

It is reported that the banner Xu Hui and her son unfolded in Tiananmen Square said the heavens would destroy the CCP, and "stop harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners."
