The Persecution of Ms. Ma Qingxia and Her Family in Xiong County, Hebei Province

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ma Qingxia, from from Shilipu Village, Xiong County, Hebei Province, has been relentlessly persecuted. She has been arrested, detained in a detention centre and forced labour camp, and forced to leave her home. Her family members, who are non-practitioners, have also suffered severe persecution. Her husband has been arrested twice for refusing to turn in other practitioners. He was detained in a forced labour camp for three years. Ms. Ma's mother-in-law passed away from the grief of missing her son and daughter-in-law. Ms. Ma's son was almost handicapped due to his parents being unable to take care of him. Even still, Ms. Ma's family is being frequently harassed and persecuted by the local police.

Ms. Ma was Very Ill Before Practising Falun Gong - Entire Family Benefits from Her Practice

Ms. Ma Qingxia had many different diseases in the past, for which there were no cures. There was an old, traditional Chinese medicine doctor who told Ms. Ma, "Though you're only in your thirties, your organ performance is worse than an older woman in her sixties."

Ms. Ma suffered from her diseases every day. Then one day she was able to learn Falun Dafa, and she started her path of cultivation. Through practising Falun Dafa, all of her diseases disappeared, and her mind broadened. When she treated everything around her with a practitioner's compassion, the problems between her and her mother-in-law were resolved. The whole family got along very well. Ms. Ma took care of her father-in-law prior to his passing, and the neighbours all praised her for her compassion.

Though Ms. Ma's husband didn't practise Falun Dafa, he saw the wonders of the practice and deeply knew that Falun Dafa was magnificent. He has always been very supportive of his wife's practice. Their son was a very sweet boy as well. The whole family has been blessed with the grace of Falun Dafa.

Broken Family During the Persecution

On July 20th, 1999, Jiang Zemin [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong. In October 1999, Ms. Ma and several other practitioners travelled to Beijing to appeal at the Central Appeals Office. They were arrested and detained in Xiong County Detention Centre. Sixteen prisoners were detained in one room with only one small sink and a toilet inside the room. The bed could not accommodate all of the prisoners, so all of the Falun Dafa practitioners let the other prisoners sleep in the bed. They slept on the damp and cold cement floor, though they never felt cold, got sick, or experienced any discomfort. Conversely, the other prisoners who slept in the bed asked for medicine every two or three days. From this occurrence, the medical doctor witnessed the wonders of Falun Dafa. Ms. Ma was detained for 10 months in the detention centre, and dishonest thugs also extorted 2,000 yuan¹ from her family.

The CCP blocked all channels for legal appeals. Ms. Ma and other practitioners distributed truth-clarifying fliers to let the people know it was wrong for the CCP to persecute Falun Gong. One month later, the police ransacked Ms. Ma's home, and she was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. The corrupt officials could not catch her, so instead they arrested her husband and detained him for four months.

In the autumn of 2001, Ms. Ma came back to Xiong County, but for security reasons, she didn't move back to her home. The whole family united outside of their home. Her son hadn't seen her for such a long time, and he constantly laughed and smiled. Ms. Ma also often went home to see her old mother-in-law.

In February 2002, however, Ms. Ma was again arrested. In trying to force her to expose the source of the leaflets exposing the persecution, the Political Security Division police deprived her of sleep for three days. They hung a sign on her neck and made her parade in the street with convicts. Later, she was sentenced to three years of forced labour and was detained at the Baoding City Forced Labour Camp. Ms. Ma's husband attempted to send her some clothing, but the officials also arrested him and sentenced him to three years of forced labour for refusing to turn in other practitioners.

Their 10-year-old son lost his parents again. His elderly grandmother could not take care of her grandchild, and he had to go to his third aunt's home. During that period, Ms. Ma's mother-in-law passed away due to grief, and could not even see her own son and daughter-in-law one last time.

In autumn 2003, Ms. Ma's son fell and fractured his leg and had to lie in bed every day. In constant pain, the child missed his parents even more, and he felt very depressed. The child's aunt called the labour camp in the hope that Ms. Ma could come back to look after her child. However, the labour camp just ignored her pleas. Because the child was not taken care of properly, his leg did not heal for a long time. Until Ms. Ma was released, the child's leg could not be touched without producing extreme pain. Furthermore, because the child's parents were detained for such a long time, he was very depressed and had a difficult time doing well in school.

Witnessing the Wonders of Falun Dafa Again

In late March 2004, Ms. Ma and her husband were released from the hellish labour camp, and the family was finally reunited. However, because the child's leg had not fully recovered, there was a wound-hole at the fracture location, and he was often in a lot of pain. He did not dare to run or jump. The doctor in Xiong County suggested that he see doctors at the Jishuitan Hospital in Beijing, and said that if the leg was not treated in time, it may have to be amputated. The couple had no money however and was very worried.

At this time, the child said to his parents seriously, "We don't have money, so don't take me to the hospital. I know that only Falun Gong can save me. Please let me practise Falun Gong." The couple was very surprised and happy. The mother helped the child learn the practice. After only ten days, the child found the hole-like wound on his leg had disappeared and was flat again. The pain in his leg also stopped, and started to feel comfortable again. The child happily told his parents, and they were overjoyed. The child's leg was completely cured! Again, the family witnessed the magnificence of Falun Dafa.

Frequent Harassment by Wicked Officials

Whenever the so-called "sensitive days" approached, the lawless officials of Xiong County would go to Ms. Ma's home to harass her and attempt to force her to write a pledge renouncing Falun Gong. Sometimes they also searched her home.

At noon on August 12th, 2007, police officer Liu Ziwei from the Baoding Forced Labour Camp, along with five or six other officers from Xiong County went to Ms. Ma's home to harass her and search the home again. When the police arrived, only the child was home. The police did not look for other things, but stole their precious Falun Dafa book, Zhuan Falun [This book comprises the principal teachings of Falun Dafa].
