Mr. Zhao Hongxing is a practitioner from Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, and an employee of the Railway Bureau. At around 11 a.m. on July 3rd, 2007, there was a knock at their door, and they discovered that a notice had been left for them from Dafangli Police Station, requesting Mr. Zhao to go to the police station. When Mr. Zhao called the phone number on the notice, the contact person told him to go to the station to write the "three statements"1.

Ms. Zhao Guohua started practising Falun Gong in 1994, and her mind and body became healthy due to the practice. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to defame Falun Gong and to persecute practitioners on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Zhao and his mother went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. Later on Mr. Zhao went to Beijing by himself and was arrested. Mr. Zhao has been arrested and detained several times, and his home was repeatedly ransacked. Due to the mental anguish she suffered from these events, Ms. Zhao became paralysed and her mind became unclear. Since his mother was unable to care for herself, Mr. Zhao took care of her.

Between July 12th and 15th of 2007, Mr. Zhao was reported to the authorities while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution to people at the Dafangli Market. Police officers from Dafangli Police Station went to Mr. Zhao's home and arrested him. Ms. Zhao was forcibly carried from her home and sent to a retirement home.

Ms. Zhao passed away fifteen days later in the retirement home at the age of 86. Mr. Zhao's current whereabouts are unknown.

Note

1. "Three Statements": Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write "Repentance Statement," "Guarantee Statement" or 'Dissociation Statement" as proof that they have given up their belief. In the statement, the practitioner is forced to admit remorse for practising Falun Gong, promise to give up Falun Gong, and never again associate with other practitioners or go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong.
