On August 4th, 2007, Falun Gong practitioners from Toronto gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate to protest the violent attack on Zhang Chunyu, a Falun Gong practitioner who was beaten by thugs while peacefully protesting the persecution in front of the Chinese Embassy in Vancouver on August 2nd. Practitioners condemned the CCP for extending the persecution to Canada.

Falun Gong practitioners protest the attack in front of the Chinese Consulate

It was about 5:30 in the morning on August 2nd when Raymond Zhang's meditation in a hut outside the Vancouver Chinese consulate was violently interrupted. Three men approached on foot and began to tear down signs and a banner from the consulate fence. They then put a gun to Zhang's head, pulled the trigger repeatedly and started to punch him in the face and head.

"The gun was pointed at my left temple," said Zhang. "The guy pulled the trigger constantly and yelled, 'Get away from here! Don't stay here!'"

The other two men joined in the assault, kicking holes in the side of the hut and punching and kicking Zhang in the stomach and head. The attack left Zhang, 33, with a fractured bone on the left side of his face, internal bleeding, and bruises.

Recently, several media in Canada reported the harassment of Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese Consulates and Embassy, and police documents verify a series of phone harassments and emails attacking Falun Gong practitioners from China. The Chinese Consulates and Embassy have refused to renew some practitioners' passports.

Purpose of the attack

A representative of Falun Gong practitioners said that the practitioners have been clarifying the facts about Falun Gong and exposing the persecution in front of the Chinese Embassy in Vancouver 24 hours a day for six years. Their peaceful and rational appeals have won many people's respect and support. Many people, including Chinese people, have learned the truth from them.

She said: "The purpose of the attack is obvious. Who is it that doesn't want to see the protest in front of the Chinese Consulate? It is very clear who is behind this attack."

She emphasised that Falun Gong practitioners won't give in and the attack only further exposed the CCP's violent nature. She said that every such incident from the CCP makes people support Falun Gong even more.

She stated that the Falun Dafa Association in Canada will ask the Canadian government and police to investigate the attack and ask Chinese officials to stop the harassment and to stop spreading hate propaganda that incites people to violence.

The CCP extends the persecution overseas

Diana, a Falun Gong practitioner, listed the types of harassments from the CCP. They include phone calls, emails, hacking into Falun Gong practitioners' websites, tapping phones, spying on practitioners, exerting pressure on the Chinese community and harassing congressman Rob Anders, who supports Falun Gong. She said that people have freedom of speech and belief in Canada, and such attacks are not tolerable in this country.

Li Zishu, a practitioner, told this reporter that his car, which has the words "Falun Gong" on it, was vandalised. The same thing has happened to other practitioners as well.

Alice stated that she had received more than 20 harassing phone calls.

Practitioner Wang Wang condemned the CCP for extending the persecution overseas. In June 2004, Falun Gong practitioner, David Liang of Australia was shot on his way to a Falun Gong press conference in South Africa. In November 2001, Wang Xueliang from Canada was beaten by Chinese Embassy officials. In February 2006, CCP spies broke into Li Yuan's house and beat him in Atlanta.

Wang Wang pointed out: "Chen Yonglin, a former Chinese Embassy official in Australia, has exposed several secret documents from the Chinese Embassy in Sydney, which showed that the CCP has extended its persecution of Falun Gong to other countries through its embassies and consulates. So, the attack on August 2nd is not an isolated incident. In Toronto, practitioners' truth-clarifying display boards have been damaged by CCP spies twice recently."

Wang Wang said that the attack shows the CCP's desperation.
