On the morning of April 24th, 2007, practitioners from Hamburg and Hanover gathered outside the Chinese Consulate General in Hamburg. They were commemorating the April 25th 1999 peaceful appeal by 10,000 practitioners.

At the time, 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners went to the Beijing Appeals Bureau to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong freely. Police directed them intentionally towards Zhongnanhai, the government leadership compound. The police wanted to create the impression that a large crowd was 'surrounding' Zhongnanhai. The government officials then capitalised on this event and spread lies about Falun Gong. The intent was to defame Falun Gong.

Practitioners called for attention to the persecution of Falun Gong and the cruelties perpetrated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), with large banners. At the same time, they demonstrated the five beautiful Falun Gong exercises.

In the evening practitioners remembered the 3,000 murdered during this persecution and the eight year long suppression of Falun Gong by the CCP. They read aloud all 3,013 names of those Falun Gong practitioners who were tortured to death in China, to assure that all Consulate residents could hear them.
