The 33rd Annual Argentina International Book Fair closed on May 8th, 2007. People from around the world set up booths at the book fair. Falun Gong was one of them. The book fair was on for three weeks, with visitors totaling 12 million. The last day was Sunday, with about 70,000 visitors.

A steady flow of visitors to the Falun Gong booth at the book fair

It is the fourth year for the Argentina Falun Dafa Association to take part in the book fair. Practitioners displayed Falun Gong and Zhuan Falun in both Spanish and Chinese. They also displayed photos depicting the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. Many visitors stopped by the Falun Gong booth to look and inquire further. Many primary and secondary school students came to the booth to do investigation and conduct interviews because their teachers asked them to write reports on why Falun Gong is being persecuted in China. Many people wanted to learn this ancient Chinese cultivation practice.

A coordinator from the Argentina Falun Dafa Association explained that Falun Gong participated in this international book fair to spread authentic traditional Chinese culture.

The coordinator explained that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) used to take part in this book fair. In 2004, when the Argentina Falun Dafa Association first joined the book fair, the Chinese Embassy strongly protested - they even went to the Argentina Ministry of Culture to slander Falun Gong. They also threatened that if Falun Gong was allowed to participate, they would withdraw. The Argentina Ministry of Culture and the Book Fair Organisers did not accept the embassy's unreasonable demands. The CCP staff then removed their booth prior to the opening ceremony and withdrew from the book fair. The embassy has not returned.
