Six lawyers representing Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Wang Bo and her parents Mr. Wang Xinzhong and Mrs. Liu Shuqin are openly defending them. The lawyers entered "not guilty" pleas when the "trial" began. Later they submitted open letters three times to higher judicial authorities requesting a public retrial for Ms. Wang Bo's family. Now the international community is paying closer attention to Ms. Wang's case. It's recently been reported that the Beijing Judicial Bureau and police officers from the Beijing National Security Division are threatening these six lawyers in an attempt to make them quit Ms. Wang's case. Currently Ms. Wang and her parents are detained at two different detention centres in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province. Mr. Wang was diagnosed with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, and his current condition is precarious. More details follow:

Ms. Wang Bo and her mother Liu Shuqin are currently being held at Detention Centre Number Two in Shijiazhuang City. In late March 2007 Wang Bo and her mother went on a hunger strike for five days protesting their detention. Mrs. Liu was handcuffed and hung up simply because she practised the Falun Gong exercises in her cell. Despite the persecution Ms. Wang and her mother are clear headed and in good spirits.

Mr. Wang Xinzhong is being held at the Zhao County Detention Centre in Shijiazhuang. He exhibited symptoms of critical illness and was sent to the ER. He was diagnosed with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease. His current blood pressure is 180 over 140 and his life is in danger, but because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is carrying out its genocidal policy against Falun Dafa practitioners, it's tremendously difficult for Mr. Wang to obtain a release for medical treatment.

Recently officers of the Beijing Judicial Bureau and the Beijing National Security Division have threatened the family's lawyers. Despite enormous pressure, they submitted not guilty pleas and openly defended Wang Bo's family at the first trial. Furthermore they've submitted open letters to higher judicial authorities three times requesting a public retrial at the original Chang'an District Court for Ms. Wang's family. After studying the records and interviewing those involved in the case they found that the trial process had seriously violated established legal procedures, the evidence was not sufficient and their case didn't meet the definition of a "crime" in legal terms or in point of fact.

Recently Pei Weihua of the Shijiazhuang City Intermediate Court said that the trial would not be public, and the judges were reluctant to give an explanation. Evidently the CCP intends to continue to employ its devious and underhanded methods to keep Wang Bo's family in prison.

Despite the pretext, the judge is duty-bound to fulfil his responsibility to uphold justice in keeping with the established professional ethical standards of a judge. When this page of history turns, judges will be tried for their role in the persecution, abandoning their legal responsibilities, and sentencing Falun Gong practitioners, just like all those who participated in the holocaust during the Nazi period.

According to Article 187 of the Criminal Code of the People's Republic of China, "The court of a second trial shall convene a bench trial for appeals. The court shall determine whether a new trial is warranted after reviewing the records, questioning the defendants and listening to the other parties and legal counsel to determine the facts of the case. Six lawyers from four Beijing law offices representing Wang Bo's family wrote in their open letters to the authorities that, "The procedures employed at of first trial seriously violated the established legal procedures, the facts of the case were not clear, the evidence was insubstantial, and the laws cited are not applicable to the case." They requested that the case be retried in a public forum or sent back to the Changan District Court for a retrial.

Under the circumstances the best outcome would be that the judges of the Intermediate Court opt to return the case to the Changan District Court for a public retrial.

We ask that overseas Falun Dafa practitioners call the judges at the Shijiazhuang Intermediate Court to persuade them to return Ms. Wang Bo's family's case to the Changan District Court.
