Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Sun Houlian was from Xiayu Village, Gaoling Town, Yantai City, Shandong Province. In 2006, the No. 2 Women's Labour Camp in Shandong Province persecuted her until she lost her vision and was in critical condition. She passed away on March 16th, 2007, at around 6:00 a.m. Ms. Sun was fifty-seven years old.

Two other Dafa practitioners, Ms. Xu Xuemei and Yan Xiling, were also subjected to persecution for practising Falun Dafa, and had their health ruined as a result of persecution. They were tortured with long term sleep deprivation and were also forced to stand for long periods of time.

Ms. Sun Houlian began practising Falun Dafa in 1998. She went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Dafa in 1999 but was arrested while she was in Yantai City. The police took her to a brainwashing centre, where she was forcibly "transformed1." Ms. Sun came back to Falun Dafa in 2002 and continued her cultivation and informing people about the true nature of Falun Gong.

On July 11th, 2005, Yang Yinghai and Zhu Jianguo from the Public Security Bureau of Mouping District, along with police from Gaoling Town broke into a Dafa practitioner's house where Sun Houlian and other practitioners were studying the Fa. They arrested three practitioners including Sun Houlian, and held them in the Town Public Security Bureau subdivision.

Sun Houlian was sent to the Mouping Detention Centre the next day and was later sentenced to two years of forced labour in the No. 2 Women's Labour Camp in Zipowang Village.

In the labour camp, the police forced Sun Houlian to watch while they brutally tortured another practitioner. Over the course of her incarceration, she was severely traumatised mentally and physically. By the summer of 2006, Ms. Sun could hardly walk, and relied on others for being fed and using the toilet. She also lost her vision and couldn't talk.

In August 2006, the labour camp released Sun Houlian to her family. Her family took her to Liuhuangding Hospital in Yantai where she was diagnosed with a late stage brain tumour. They spent seven thousand yuan2 in only two days on her medical treatment. For a farmer's income, that medical bill was beyond what they could afford, so they took Sun Houlian home.

In Xiayu Village everyone knows Sun Houlian. After she started practising Falun Dafa, she was always healthy, full of vitality and had a lively character with a good sense of humour. Under the persecution, within a year she couldn't walk and was in critical condition. There are countless families that have suffered under the brutality of the Chinese Communist Party, just like Sun Houlian's family.
