Intensified Persecution After the 2001 United Nations Human Rights Congress

Let us focus our attention on an evil lair where Falun Dafa practitioners are persecuted, Dalian Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province, on the second day following last year's UN Human Rights Congress, March 19, 2001. This day may seem to be just an ordinary day. However, the guards and police officers, influenced by the state propaganda, didn't know the truth about Falun Gong and watched us with disdain. Some police officers cited an old Chinese saying, "We have won at the Human Rights Congress. How can the weaker arms fight with the stronger thighs?" Thereupon their persecution became even more intense.

That same day, they started to carry out the more intensive persecution. They assembled all the practitioners who were firm in their belief and attempted to force them to write the three guarantee letters [to give up cultivation, to slander Dafa and Teacher]. Threatening the practitioners with torture, they tried to force them to give up their beliefs in this way. Several typical torture cases follow.

Wang Zhiyong was shocked with electric batons, beaten with a police baton, handcuffed behind his back and subjected to many other kinds of torture until he lost consciousness. He was later transferred to the Changtu County Guanshanzi Labour Camp in northern Liaoning Province because of his firm belief in Falun Dafa.

Police shocked Liu Changhai with eight electric batons at the same time. They tortured him with the "Tiger Bench" [Practitioners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall. Practitioners' knees are tightly tied on the small bench - "Tiger Bench." He has to sit straight up with his eyes looking straight ahead. His hands are tied on the back or sometimes placed on his knees. He is not allowed to turn his head, close his eyes, talk to anyone, raise his hand, or call out for the attention of the guards. Many inmates are assigned to watch the practitioner. If he turns his head, they would force the practitioner to hold his head in that position indefinitely. If the practitioner raises his hand to call the attention of the guards when his hands are placed on his knees, they would force him to hold his hands in the air indefinitely. If he speaks, they would force his mouth to remain open indefinitely. Usually some hard objects are inserted underneath the practitioner's lower legs or ankles to make it harder for them to tolerate this abuse, see illustration on http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2001/11/24/16156.html,] hanging him with hands cuffed behind his back, stripping off all his clothes, binding his hands and feet to the bed corners, and inserting an electric baton into his anus. After these brutal tortures, his neck, face, buttocks, armpits, arms, feet, and multiple places all over his body were burnt from the electric shocks, with big blisters everywhere. He was later transferred to the Changtu County Guanshanzi Labour Camp in northern Liaoning Province because of his firm belief in Falun Dafa.

Liu Yonglai was beaten mercilessly by the criminal prisoners encouraged by the police and tortured with the electric bed. Kicking and trampling left many footprints on the front and backside of his clothes. Protesting the violent torture and brainwashing to safeguard his noble belief, he sacrificed his precious life in being tortured to death. The ruling regime is solely responsible for his death.

Qu Hui safeguarded the truth and his belief with his life, resisting violent brainwashing persecution. His tortures lead to cervical vertebra fracture, and he now lies in bed, paralysed.

Zheng Wei has a severely curved vertebral column. Despite this disability, the judicial organs deliberately broke the law to persecute him. More disturbing, they tortured him with the brutal means such as "Locking up in a small cell" [The detainee is locked up in a very small cell individually. The guards handcuff practitioners on their back in a fixed position, in which the practitioners can neither move nor lie down. The small cell is very damp and no sunshine comes in. Detainees have to urinate and defecate in the cell. Only half of a regular meal is served to detainees locked up in a small cell during the daytime. During the night the rats are running around. The stench in the small cell is so bad that it is difficult to breathe] shocking him with electric batons, beating him with police batons, and handcuffing, in an attempt to force him to give up his belief in Falun Dafa.

Zhang Ruiming, a male over 60-years-old, was shocked with 5 or 6 electric batons simultaneously for over two hours.

Chen Jiafu, male, was tortured to death for his firm belief in Falun Dafa, sacrificing his life to resist violent brainwashing persecution.

Since the authorities strictly block information in trying to cover up these crimes, it is still difficult to comprehensively collect more detailed and concrete persecution facts. However, the several hundred practitioners who have suffered serious persecution in this camp will surely bring up their accounts of these crimes as circumstances permit.

Although one year has passed, one still trembles with fear upon recalling these brutal persecutions. As for the persons mentioned above, some of them had been released on bail for medical treatment, but for fear of further persecution, have become destitute and homeless. Some were transferred to the Guanshanzi Forced Labour Camp and suffer very bad conditions. Some have been tortured to death because of their firm belief in Falun Dafa.

The persecution continues, with the above-mentioned tortures still being used in many places all over China.

The 2002 International Human Rights Congress has arrived. Although our bodies are confined in the prison and suffering the terrifying persecution, although we cannot go to Geneva to clarify the truth, we firmly believe that evil cannot prevail over righteousness, and that all rumours will be exposed in the end. At this moment in history, people who courageously stand up for the freedom of belief and the basic human rights of the Falun Gong practitioners who are suffering in China are actually laying the foundation for a bright future for themselves.
