Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Jiang Yuejun was sentenced to eighteen months of forced labour after his ribs were fractured in a brutal beating. The National Protection Team of Shulan City, Jilin Province was responsible. In view of Mr. Jiang's severe injuries and wounds, however, the labour camp refused to accept him. As a result, he is now being held and further persecuted in the Nanshan Detention Centre of the Public Security Bureau in Shulan City.

Mr. Jiang, a secondary schoolteacher in Qingfeng Village, Shulan City, had a childhood filled with illnesses and diseases. His body lacked potassium, and he could not perform even the simplest farming tasks before he was twenty years old. As a result, he lived in constant, intense pain. Fortunately, he was able to start practising Falun Dafa in 1998. From the first time he held and read a Falun Dafa book, Zhuan Falun , he has never needed another pill or drug ever again. All his diseases were miraculously healed and he became very healthy. Seeing the tremendous changes in him, his wife felt the magnificence of Dafa and also began cultivation

Both Mr. Jiang and his wife led their lives according to the principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." They worked very hard and ignored personal interests and gains. They donated generously to support poor students and used their holidays to tutor them. When the parents of these students tried to offer them gifts to express their gratitude, the couple thanked them but did not accept anything. When they were unable to refuse a gift, they bought another gift and sent it to the parents in return.

After the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Party began, they have been persecuted by many representatives of the state. They have been "illegally detained1" several times and Mr. Jiang has also been sentenced to re-education through forced labour. His wife was even imprisoned just days before giving birth to their son. Over the past few years the authorities have deducted more than 30,000 yuan2 from their pay. Moreover, both of their families have also been harassed.

On June 20th, 2006, the National Protection Team from the Public Security Bureau in Shulan City, along with officers from the Qingfeng Village Police Station, once again broke into their workplace and homes. They confiscated three cellphones, two MP3 players, and several cassette players, amounting to more than 3,000 yuan in total value. Mr. Jiang was also arrested. He was brutally beaten by police that same day on the school campus. The police fractured one of his legs and he could not walk.

Mr. Jiang was brought to the Public Security Bureau, where he was interrogated for two days. He was tortured with all sorts of methods and equipment and not a single part of his body was without wounds from the beatings he received. It was only because of a fractured rib that he was sent to the Nanshan Detention Centre. Even then, however, not only did the policemen refuse to give him medical attention, they also announced to the public that they had not beaten him at all.

Recently, the National Protection Team of Shulan City sentenced Mr. Jiang to a eighteen months in a forced labour camp. Due to his severe injuries, however, he was rejected by the labour camp. (His arms were wrapped with very thick medical cloth when he was sent away.) Currently, the National Protection Team refuses to release him and he is still being subjected to persecution within the Nanshan Detention Centre.

Seeing her son suffering from such tremendous persecution, Jiang's mother, already elderly, developed severe depression. The hospital is still demanding hundreds of yuan in medical expenses from her that she is unable to pay. We call on everyone around the world to lend a helping hand to stop this persecution.

Note

1. Illegally arrested: Contrary to what former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin, who initiated the persecution, and the Chinese Communist Party would like the world to believe, practising Falun Gong is NOT illegal in China. Although the Public Security Department issued an unconstitutional set of restraints on the practice at the onset of the persecution in 1999, no laws have been passed by the only legislative body in China, the People's Congress, banning Falun Gong or granting the police the authority to arrest Falun Gong practitioners for practising the exercises or distributing flyers. For a more complete discussion of the illegality of the persecution of Falun Gong, please refer to the article "The Ban on Falun Gong—A Dictator's Whim, Not the Rule of Law". (Variation: "illegally sentenced")

2. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
