Practitioner Jiao Wanhui, who worked at the Heavy Type Mechanical Factory in Jinzhou City, was arrested by police from Tashan Town Police Station of Huludao City in October 2005 while distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. The Lianshan District Court in Huludao City sentenced him to three years in prison. Mr. Jiao is currently detained in the Fourth Section of the Second Ward of Jinpan Prison in Liaoning Province.

On June 17th, 2006, Jiao Wanhui went on a hunger strike to protest the detention. After 19 days on the hunger strike, he was transferred to the Patient Care Centre of Panjin Prison. There he was handcuffed to the bed. Prison guards inserted tubes into Mr. Jiao’s nose and force-fed him. The guards refused to let Jiao Wanhui’s family to visit him. According to prison guards, Mr. Jiao’s kidneys have stopped functioning.

Jiao Wanhui’s current situation is very precarious, yet the prison guards still refuse to release him. They even threatened Mr. Jiao’s family, saying that if he continues hunger striking, he will certainly die and they will absolutely not release his body after he dies. They said that Panjian Prison has never released anyone. They also said that there was a Falun Gong practitioner persecuted to death a few days ago, yet nobody was held responsible for his death.
