On May 28th, 2006, news came that the former head of China's 610 Office, Li Lanqing, had been invited by Singapore leader Lee Kuan Yee to receive an honorary doctorate at the National University of Singapore. A series of incidents followed, ranging from an attempt to deport Falun Gong practitioners to the banning of Falun Gong practitioners from holding truth clarification activities, to trying Falun Gong practitioners in court for the third time. [The 610 Office is a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) gestapo-like organisation specifically set up to persecute Falun Gong]

The nine practitioners who were charged with "Illegal Assembly" for distributing flyers on October 22nd-23rd, 2005 on Orchard Road and Underpass of Orchard MRT made an open statement, explaining that their original intention was to distributing flyers and calling on the Singapore government to drop the charges against them. The statement also expressed that they would continue making efforts all the way until the killing in China is stopped.

The following is the text of the open letter:

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Nine Falun Gong practitioners in Singapore will be tried in court on July 21st, 2006 for distributing truth clarification materials about Falun Gong and other related information along Orchard Road and Orchard Underpass on October 22nd and 23rd, 2005. We hereby wish to express our sincere thoughts on this issue.

On the dates mention above, we had chosen these high pedestrian traffic locations so that we could inform people from all walks of life that five million Chinese people had already renounced their memberships of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated associations. Our thoughts were simple, we wanted to let people know about this. The number of withdrawals from the CCP has now exceeded eleven million.

In the past seven years, Falun Gong practitioners around the world have persevered under difficult circumstances, to clarify the truth about Falun Gong in various ways. Our objective is to bring awareness to the public at large on the sufferings of our fellow practitioners and the horrendous genocide escalating in China.

The worlds media recently exposed the CCP acts of evil in the large scale organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners, locked up in concentration camps throughout China, such as Sujiatun, Shenyang and Liaoning Province. The organs harvested were then sold for premium sums of money and the bodies, still alive, were immediately cremated to destroy the evidence.

Former Canadian MP David Kilgour and international human rights lawyer David Matas have conducted an independent investigation into the allegations of organ harvesting of Falun Gong Practitioners in China. They published a report of their conclusions on July 6th, 2006. The report draws the regrettable conclusion that the allegations are true. "Our findings are shocking. To us, this is a form of evil we have yet to see on this planet."

However, the display of indifference and emotional 'numbness' of many people, even when faced with the direct evidence of cruelties and the massive loss of human lives committed by China's state terrorism has saddened us. Most of the mainstream media in civilised society remain silent on the CCP crimes. Such silence and passiveness has enable the bloody killings to continue in broad daylight. Unassisted, Falun Gong practitioners are compelled to seek other means to call for an end to the persecution. Just think, if all newspapers, and TV stations could publish unbiased and true reports on the persecution of Falun Gong, it would not be necessary for us to spend our own money to make materials, to sacrifice our time with our families so that we could take to the street to tell people that we have been wronged, our fellow practitioners are being murdered and many are facing the danger of having their organs harvested at any moment.

It is absurd that CCP's officials can arbitrarily kill people and get away with it scot-free, whereas people who call for help are charged in court. We are also questioning the professional ethics of the media in Singapore for keeping silent to the crimes committed by one of the chief perpetrators in the persecution of Falun Gong, Li Lanqing, who was invited to Singapore on July 6th, 2006. Li Lanqing is facing many lawsuits in various countries for genocide, yet ironically, Singapore has conferred him with an honorary degree, whereas Falun Gong members, who call for a stop to the genocide, are charged in court or put in jail.

Is the world becoming morally degenerated? Have people blurred the line between right and wrong, good and bad? We do not think so. On the contrary, we have seen and felt many Singaporeans' kindness and understanding in our truth clarification to them during the past few years. We strongly feel that the concerted strength of kindness can dissolve all enmities. We will still try our utmost to awaken people's kind thoughts, so that they can help stop the most evil persecution in human history.

As Falun Gong practitioners, we feel it is not wrong to clarify the facts by exposing CCP persecution of Falun Gong to the general public in Singapore. With kind thoughts and actions, we hope that more people can learn about the truth, and help rescue the precious lives that are facing the risks of being murdered in Mainland China.

Law is man made but quintessentially it must be enforced with righteousness and conscience. Before judging a person guilty or otherwise, one must take into consideration his motivation and background. Do we really intend to use the law to punish those who offer help to rescue people?

We hope the Singapore government will drop the charges against us. If our ways of holding activities cannot be accepted by the Singaporeans, and thereby resulted in a misunderstanding, we truly feel sorry. We have no intention of breaking the law. We will choose more acceptable means in future to continue our calling to CCP to stop the killing, until the killing in China is stopped.
