How I Overcame Drowsiness

I read an article regarding how a fellow practitioner overcame his drowsiness. I had a similar experience, so I wrote about it to share with others.

It happened one day last summer, when I felt very drowsy shortly after lunch. I went to bed late the night before and took care of many things that morning. I felt tired and planned to take a nap. I then suddenly changed my mind, thinking, "I shall not go to bed, I will go to memorise the Fa (teachings in Falun Gong) immediately. I will overcome the drowsiness today." I left the bedroom, went to another room, shut the door and began to memorise the Fa.

This feeling of drowsiness was very potent, not only did I feel sleepy but I also had a headache. I could not just memorise the Fa or read the Fa in silence. An invisible force closed my eyes and shut my mouth, forcing me to give up studying the Fa, and dragging me towards the bed. I knew this was interference. I sent forth strong righteous thoughts, "No matter what happens, I must learn the Fa by heart today!" I stopped other interference thoughts, and just read and memorised the Fa. The harder it was to memorise the Fa, the harder I tried. I memorised the Fa out loud. After two hours I felt refreshed and my head was clear.

I was in this state for two days. I realised that it was Master who resolved the drowsiness for me after he saw the strong righteous thoughts I was sending forth.

Cultivation is like going upstream against the current. If you relax you will drift with the tide.

"When disciples have ample righteous thoughts
Master has the power to turn back the tide."

("The Master-Disciple Bond," from Hong Yin II, provisional translation subject to improvement).

As long as we have indestructible righteous thoughts, whatever drowsiness, whatever evil, will all be eliminated because,

"A demon will never be higher than a Tao." ( Zhuan Falun)
