Egon Knapen, a Falun Dafa practitioner from Holland, participated in the appeal activity by western practitioners on Tiananmen Square on February 14th. He was rudely beaten during the peaceful appeal. The media in Holland was shocked by the news, and they attentively reported the event from the beginning.

With the rescue efforts of Holland's Foreign Ministry, Knapen was repatriated back to Europe, together with the practitioners of other countries. Learning of this, various news media went to interview him about the event on Tiananmen Square. Almost all Dutch newspapers carried reports in prominent positions, which exposed the Chinese government's ugly behaviour and their infringement of human rights. All primary TV stations also reported the event; so far Knapen has been interviewed by three TV stations. NLNET1 invited him to a live interview on the prime time program "Network" on the evening of Feb.18. All of Holland's radio stations, including the national radio, broadcast telephone or live interviews with Knapen in their prime time programmes.

In a short period of three days, the kind people of Holland realized the truth of the persecution in China, and were shocked by the brutal activities of the Chinese authorities. "Falun Gong is a cultivation practice for both mind and body," the Dutch media reported. "The peaceful appeal was a completely personal activity, the purpose of which was to protest against the Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong since 1999."

Meanwhile, various civic organizations issued statements denouncing the Chinese government's violation of human rights and demanded the immediate end to the persecution of Falun Gong.
