On the bank of the beautiful Neva River and just opposite the Smolny Palace is the St Petersburg Artist's Association Exhibition Hall, where the first “Russian ‘Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance’ International Art Exhibition” was held on April 28th, 2006.

This international art exhibition of figurative painting, sculpture and traditional Chinese painting has been held in various countries around the world in the past two years.

The works on display were created by twenty artists who are Falun Gong practitioners. Through their work, they attempt to depict their experiences of practising Falun Gong. Many of the paintings expose that Falun Gong practitioners in China are being cruelly persecuted by the Chinese Communist regime simply because they are steadfast in their belief. Though the paintings’ themes may differ, the message they attempt to get across to people is the same: “The power of righteousness and compassion is indestructible.”

Chairman of the St Petersburg Artist's Association Exhibition Hall, Professor Polozov presides over the ribbon-cutting ceremony

The Chairman of the St Petersburg Artist's Association Exhibition Hall, Professor Polozov presided over the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He commented, “As an artist, it is impossible for me not to be concerned about this persecution. Since the paintings on display can inspire people’s compassion and conscience, they will definitely have a positive impact on peoples’ characters.

Right after the inauguration ceremony, distinguished guests and local people visited the exhibition. When asked by a practitioner if he would like to sign the petition against the persecution of Falun Gong, a guest from local government’s cultural department replied solemnly, “I must sign the petition so as to express my attitude towards such a cruel persecution.”

This artistic painting exhibit in St. Petersburg will last for one month, and it will subsequently be held in various cities in Russia.
