China: Ridiculous Things in Real Life

1. On a street in a certain town in Hubei Province, one person carried a banner reading "Offering Salvation to All Sentient Beings" on his shoulder. He was dragged to a police station and badly beaten up. In the interrogation he was asked: "Are you a Falun Gong practitioner?" "Uh? I am not. I am a monk in a temple." "Then why did you carry a flag with 'Offering Salvation to All Sentient Beings'?" He replied, "It is from Buddhism." The policeman stuttered, "You, You have to pay a fine."

2. In October 2001, police arrested five non-practitioners because they were found posting Falun Gong flyers. In the interrogation they were asked, "Where did your flyers come from?" "I got them from outside of my house." "Why did you post them?" "I feel what the flyer said is right. We workers lost our jobs and have difficultly in getting enough food for everyday living, and have to listen to Jiang's boasting."

3. Several workers from Hubei Province took a vacation to Beijing and came to the well- known Tiananmen Square. Suddenly they were encircled by policemen and plain-clothes police. The police kicked and beat them up before throwing them into a police van. Several days later, a person from the local public security bureau of Hubei came to get them back. He knew they were not Falun Gong practitioners at first sight. He spoke to comfort them and that settled the incident.
